![]() I have only been using Limewire for about a week and twice after downloading software i found that my windows xp was not functioning properly (system restore and search weren't working at all, file management was severly un-manageable, etc.) and my norton antivirus 2004 was frozen. The first time it happened I found on the norton website that i needed a file called scripten.exe which i downloaded and installed and both windows and norton were operatibg properly. Luckily i saved the file because exactly the same thing happened again the very next time i downloaded software. Each time after fixing the problem, i ran norton antivirus, spybot, and adaware (not to mention pcmedik, registry mechanic, asmw pc-optimizer) and found nothing wrong. I suspect the problem might be with the java software required for Limewire but i'm not sure and i don't have a clue what to do about it Any ideas? |

![]() I'm don't remember what i was downloading the first time but the second it was something from ***** i believe). i downloaded the same file later with kazaalite and there were no problems. My virus scanner is up to date and still has detected nothing - I even installed the norton antivirus 2005 just to be positive and still my system is coming back clean. thanks for reply RaaF Last edited by birdy; April 9th, 2009 at 08:26 PM. |

![]() Well, went through the list... found a few things that were off but no trojans or viruses. I still suspect that there is some sort of conflict with the java script and my windows script but i'm afraid i know virtually nothing about either. i've done some googling but haven't found anything useful. i can't be the only person having this problem - could i? |

![]() Well I have no clue what could be your problem. The fact is Limewire and Java work well for 99% of the users, so it has to be something on your computer, some setting or programme. Make sure you use the latest versions of Limewire and Java. Have you tried disabeling some programmes to see if that solves anything ? e.g. shut down Norton, or even reinstall Norton. Do you have or have you ever used tweaking programmes ? A systematic search is the best way to tackle this problem. Last edited by RaaF; April 9th, 2005 at 02:53 AM. |

![]() I am not having any isssues when i download music or video... it seems to be only when i download software. I have used some tweaking program so i guess somewhere i messed something up. I will try disabling some things to try to narrow it down. Thanks for trying to help RaaF |

![]() Me820041070, Perhaps some setting in Norton prevents you from opening downloaded softwares Anyway, if you can't find anything as a last resort you could try a Windows repair, assuming you use XP, read following: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Repai...s_XP-t138.html Last edited by RaaF; April 9th, 2005 at 12:21 PM. |

![]() I am using xp but a repair install seems like a fairly drastic measure. I think i'll hold off on that for now. I'm fairly certain that norton is set up correctly - i thnk i will just use kazaa when i am going to download software and limewire for video and audio. Thanks again for all your help RaaF |
