Unwanted Downloads Hi I have noticed that alot of files (which i DID NOT download) have appeared im my Limewire downloads folder. What is happening? altogether there is 200MB worth of unwanted files. I keep deleting them but they just keep coming back. PLEASE HELP!!!!! |

Looks like you have a Virus. It came with one of the files you downloaded recently (e.g. the one zip file you downloaded) or through other channels like eMail, Web or one of the countless security holes in Windows. It tries to replicate itself by creating files with attractive names so that thoughtless user download it from you and the game starts over... ... FIX: get an anti virus software |

Thanks, i have norton anti virus, i can't beleive it didn't pick it up. It only occurs when limewire is open, even for a minute. I then open my shared folder and there is countless zip files all the sames size (400kb) of various software.... delete them but they keep appearing. During a virus scan now... any other suggestions? |

@desperate Re: Norton http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=38193 @Spitfire9494: A Firewall is NOT an Anti-Virus Software and will thus not protect your computer from this type of malicious software! Well, and trying to find and delete the infected files manually is a hopeless undertaking! |

doing a restore will not remove the virus. I also have the unwanted and unknown downloads and it doesn't seem to affect my computer. of course my comp is almost 2 yrs old, so is slow by todays standards. what I guessed whats happening is that when u download someone elses file, all these other files are probably stored in the same place that the other user stored his zip file and it was automatically downloaded with the file you chose. I don't know...makes sence to me I've only been with limewire less than 6 months and have only downloaded one virus (and boy was it a doozy!!!) and don't seem to be having any problems with comp now, other than being slower than usual (which I can live with ) Unless it's causing you problems, I wouldn't worry about it. As for taking up space on your comp, unless you are short on memory (or whatever it is), I wouldn't trip on it. Also a lot of virus's downloaded, could be a false positive. |

What you need to do is to eliminate the source file causing this. I found an unusaul file on my hard drive. It was titled TEMP, it too was a zip file with the exact same size of 400kb. Do a general serach on your computer for it and eliminate it, it should also be accompanied by an x + y text file, delete these too. At the same time delete ALL the files in your shared folder, i mean EVERYTHING!!! It only worked and dissapeared for me when i deleted all these files. Then empty out your recycle bin. This worked for me, not too sure if its the same for everyone else! |
