Rkapsi and Desparate have given you good advice and I hope your problems have now been solved.

If you followed the link Rkapsi provided you will see a post I made outlining my, somewhat, paranoid policy, i.e. I don't download anything that can run, auto-run or could be hidden in a compressed file.

As Rkapsi said, you were infected by downloading stuff through your firewall, remember that you told your firewall to let anything in coming via port 6346, it just happened that the stuff you downloaded were infected. Also, most anti-virus software cannot check if something being downloaded has a virus in it, they can only check once the file is complete.

As long as you are aware of your protective apps limitations then you can take certain steps to work around them and, like I have done, use extra utilities to bolster your protection.

The Virus is maybe (probably) newer than your Virus scanner or rather the Virus denfinition database (as a Windows and P2P user you should update the database daily or at least weekly).

Just for your info: be prepaired for the worst case that your virus scanner was disarmed by the virus. For this case see the manual of your virus scanner!

Right again Rkapsi

I had this same problem in the recent past, something my son had downloaded had disabled my Nortons Firewall and Antivirus (both 2003). It took me almost 12 hours to get them back into working condition.

However, in my case, the manuals were of no use I had to go onto the Symantec web site, read through the knowledgebase, to get the answers I needed. Which turned out that I had to delete both NAV and NPF (2003) and then reinstall and update them.

Wink I HAD the same problem

I have been having this problem after downloading some sims items and games, so did anyone else with them download sims items also? Anyway, I wiped out everything on my computer today and do recall deleting a zip named TEMP which threw me because i would never have downloaded that!! It was accompanied by and X and Y like DESPERATE said he had. I also uninstalled and deleted all programs/materials downloaded since problem began. Not a big problem, but I deleted 1300 files today, so kinda annoying...anyway...I also downloaded Microsofts new Spyware beta and although not 100% impressed, it allows you to manually make changes to registry and running programs easier than current way. So all those crap folders that I could not delete (being used!!) I could finally easily close all instances and delete all registry entries in one place. Might be worth a try! Good luck and if sims are being downloaded by alot of ya'll I would like to know. Especially the mysterious 400mg that are simply a setup. PS..If you are not using Winzip I recommend it, for those of you who don't know you can right click a file and explore everything in it without unzipping it. I feel much safer knowing what exactly I am opening first!!
