Question Why so few hosts for download?

I was just wondering why when I search for a file, Limewire tells me that there are maybe 180 hosts, but the file only will download from 3 or 4 hosts. A friend of mine also uses Limewire and his files download from more than 20 hosts at a time. Any suggestions?

Salut LW will download from 6-8 hosts at one time if they are enough available sources. No way LW downloads from 20 sources at the same time, this would be wasting network ressources. If you set LW t have DSL speed, it will try to dl from 6 simultaneous hosts, if you set it to T1 or T3, it will try to dl from 8 hosts. Having the Pro version increase slightly those numbers.

alright voila, i guess i had those nombers wrong. another question i have is about the transfer rate of the downloads. on average, the speed is around 8kb/s. im running on a 10Mb/s connection and my 'network utilization' is never more than 1%.

is there a way to put more of my bandwidth towards LW to increase me transfer rate?

when talking about 10Mb/s, you mean that's your lan speed right? This is not your real max download speed. Try the speedtest at broadbandreports.com to see the real possibilities of your connection. BTW it is 8KB/s not 8kb/s. 1KB/s = 8kb/s so 8KB/s in LW means 64kb/s. The speeds should be better if you are unfirewalled, in options, go in bug reports, see an example. If at this line :
Received incomings this session: false, that means you are firewalled.
