Default Download ok, but preview only first few mins

Hi all,

I am using Limewire 4.8.1 in linux.

I have no trouble in conecting or downloading.
currently i am downloading a 700 meg avi video file. when it was complete 14% i previewed the file. it was fine. but now the download is upto 44%. but when i preview , the preview breaks at the same place where my previous preview stopped(14%).

the file size is now arounf 300mb.

but the preview is only as long as 80mb(14%)

even though the file is downloading, preview is stuck at the same time.

Is the file corrupt at 14%, is further downloading usefull or shall i begining from first.

did my action of seeing the preview at 14% corupted the file ??????????

Pls help....

Thanks

Regards

Unhappy do not preview !!!

Only preview after download completes!!! Do not do it while downloading it may crash or corrupt your audio file. It's a bug.

Here is all you need to know -

You are part of a netowrk when you use Limewire. You share files with others and they share with you. The more people who have part of a file will share with anyone who is missing even parts of thier files.

1. Leave your computer on all the time. Check Limewire and re-run your searches several times and then come back every hour or two to refresh those same searches. Do not close out your search when you are down. Leave the search window open until download is complete.

2. Try not to share bad files. Delete any virus or corrupt files as soon as possible. Use internet explorer and go to c:\program files\limewire\incomplete to delete corrupt data and old searches.

hope this helps our "little pirate" network. lol

kveaswaran

there are a few video files that some players only play the first few minutes, even when complete. For example, on OS X Quicktime will only play the first few minutes, but a player like VLC will play the whole file.

You can preview (of course) before the file is complete. Preview creates a copy of the file in the incomplete folder to avoid conflicts with the file currently downloading. If the file size of the preview doesn't change between previews, then it might be a linux/lw bug that should be reported.

Hi, thank you for your reply.

The file size of the preview does change as download does on. but i am not able to pass a certain point in the preview..

mplayer, xine, vlc(windows) all fail at the same point(14%) of the video.

but the download goes on and every time i preview, the size of preview file does increase..

i even tried to directly open the preview file from nautilus after it is being created in limewire.

but the results are the same.
I even uninstalled and reinstalled limewire.

Thanks again..

Thanks for the info. Since the preview file size changes, looks like the video is one of those corrupted ones.

If the source of the video is browsable and all the files are corrupt, looks like you found one of those malicious hosts deliberately seeding the network with bad files.
