Unhappy Someone please read this and help...

I've been using Limewire and other file sharing programs for a while now. I'l always recieved good speeds both at work and home. Up to 60KBps download. Which is my max.

Lately, both at home n work, I can't seem to do any better than 4KBps??? And not just limewire, most other file sharing programs too. I use a router at work and at home the computer I use is networked to another computer via crossover cable. Now the main computer connected to the Internet at home gets full speed downloads, but the networked computer is just as bad as my comp in the office. What could the problem be???

All the comps mentioned above have WinXP SP2 installed.

i'm having the exact same problem... i used to get like 80KB/s downloads and now i get 0-2KB/s for the past week... i just bought a new computer last weekend, i have cable connection throught my dad's comp in the living room. his is fine, but i can't get any speed at all... i've been getting no use out of limewire, so i downloaded kazaa a couple of days ago and get the same speed with it...someone posted a reply that might help you on my post under "slow downloads, very few results" (i don't know how to link)... if it helps you let me know, i can't figure this thing out...

i'm good for $20 for anyone who can help me get this fixed.

Hello

Well since you¡'re both running XP, this should help. Maybe you only need to do the last thing, some or all, who knows?

First are you both running a Spyware program? Adware has a free one, Spybot search and destroy has one search the web. Microsoft also has a program from updates.

Are all of your Widows update's current? Start, Programs, windows update.

Is youe JAVA up to date?
http://www.java.com/en/download/download_the_latest.jsp

Next Avast has a great little free Virus program search the web.

Then from Start choose, Help and Support, then select "Use tools to view your computer...", then select Network Diagnostics, and scan your system. This will ping your system and host if some come back bad could just be your ISP, or your not networked right or some settings are off in your system. Also in the same window chose tools to view your computer there is a wealth of information on your system, conflicts, problems, etc¡K If any of this information comes back bad form Help and Support chose "Get support,..." and go to a newsgroup forum.

Ok we are having fun now, :-), This section is also accessible form Help and Support/ "Use tools..." , It is just really important, From Start choose, Control panel, switch it to classic view in the upper left corner, Then open Administrative tools, select Event viewer, open by clicking application, security and system. These will show you the errors XP is generating, if you click on the errors, you will see a blue link to a possible fix.

On Limewire find a download called Windows XP inside & out, the best for owning XP.

Even on a new system the bugs are intense, if your running a system with the manufactures program loaded also, attempting to control XP, it just slows it down and dinks it up. You can tell because the name of the computer manufacturer¡'s logo pops up first when booting, for me to date I have not been able to fix the problems associated XP being controlled by the manufactures program. I just try to keep these machines clean as possible. Oh, I'm not a computer guru just bored with too much information and help friends and neighbors out once and a while.

Once a month or so depending on the amount you use the computer this should be done or when it starts running like a slug. From start chose My computer, R-click on your main drive, chose Properties, On the general tab click Disk Cleanup, Then on the Tools tab click Defragmentation, Also on the Tools tab click Error-Checking, choose yes, after everything has run the next time you shut down the computer Check Disk will run. On your next re-boot make sure you do not need to be on for around an hour. On the next re-boot a blue screen will pop up do not interrupt it, do not shut down your system to stop it, could and very easily crash your system if you have problems.

Then just for some added information look at this thread, this forum, for his ideas.
