Download failing on me

I did not encounter this problem before.

I have been using Limewire Basic without any problem whatsoever in the past. The downloads were pretty smooth until recently.

Being a computer layman, I am not sure what is happening and appreciate if someone could offer some kind of advice.

Of late most of my downloads seemed to extremely slow. The Kb
would read like 1 and then 2 and it will fall back to 0. Sometimes it goes as high as 5 and having downloaded about 8% of the song agonizingly, it goes back to 0. I have never encounter this problem before.

HOwever only rare occasion like this morning, I managed to get a smooth download.
It goes as high as 15Kb dropped to 10kb and remain constant throughout. Extremely rare. This is the only song I managed to download for the last 14 days.

What is happening????
