Question Anger rising - ah, hang on

Intel P4 2.8
Win2000
1024Mb mem
latest L/W
2Mb B/band

I'm in serious need of help here, peeps.
5hrs and not one track. Download speed 0 or 1Kbps. Forum full of confusion. New user and losing rag. Zone alarm firewall makes no difference on or off. Presume setting should be cable/dsl connection. Others talk of forcing ISP but do not say how. About to write off what i paid for this and go napster.
why have I got a funny envelope different to everyone elses? Where's the help tab? Come on guys, i'm serious.
Look, 23 of you have read this. Does that mean no-one knows anything?

FS1: Hey Filo, how you doin?
FS2: Hi Filo.Not bad.
FS1: You kinda stuck?
FS2: Just a bit. Got me this Limeywire thing attached to the mp3 download site and having some probs with it. Trying to find the answer but no joy.
FS1: Yeah, it's the same with anything you get on the net nowadays. 'Buy this, it's cheap and easy'. What they dont tell you is it will take you 4 years just to read and understand all the FAQ's because instead of putting it in a language everyone can understand, they fill it with phrases only computer professors can read. You see Filo, Your not meant to understand ALL of it otherwise the know-it-all's would have their ego's dented.
FS2: Fair comment Filo, but I don't expect to know it all. Just enough to use it correctly and safely. All these icons must give out the wrong message or something. Look at that envelopy one i've got. Can't find anywhere what that means. Methinks it's putting people off, Filo.
FS1: Or it could be that your talking to yourself?
FS2: I have to, Filo. It's that 'trying to work it out in your head' senario. Besides, i think i could learn something about patience in the 2 hours it looks like it's gonna take to download a track.
FS1: Do you know, Shaggers, I think your right. Well, gotta go. I've a hot date with a download manageress. See ya kiddo.
FS2: Yeah, see you later.(now wheres me book?)

Steif: Nah. Anyhow, somebody up there must like an idiot because it started working this afternoon, 26hrs after I started. Even wierder was other problems cleared up as well (so did the weather).

FS1: I told you the b/band cable didn't plug into the aerial socket. Maybe you'll believe me now and take the phone out of the light fitting.

FS2: Get back in yer crate. Yes, well thanks for answering Steif. Though there is one question - with the monitor tab, it doesn't seem though anyone is uploading any of my stuff but the router light is going mad. I have let access to my music folder but how does a search recognise the artist from just a song title? Does it recognise titles of folders as well?

--the router light refects all the connection traffic. See the LimeWire tools->statistics->bandwidth to watch how much data is being processed. The "gnutella" traffic is for searches and connections; the "http" traffic is for transfers.

If you are running as an ultrapeer, that will use up about 10 KB/s alone.

re the search recognition, LW makes a table of file descriptions that uses keywords from the filename, folder path/names, metadata (like artist, bitrate etc), time, hash, extension and probably even more data that accurately describes a file. It's a bit like the Finder Info, but much fuller.

So, when enough of the keywords match the table, LW will respond to a search request.

If you are interesting in searching for even more info about the ideas behind much of gnutella's code, the developers have started and are updating a searchable wiki. Here's the link http://www.the-gdf.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

cheers

Hey, Thank you Steif. There has been 2 u/l's in the past 10 minutes so i'm happy to be contributing and not feel like a tea leaf. It also means I don't have to go through all my music's ID tags and fill them in. Cheers bud.
