Problem Playing Certain Video Files Frequently, I will download a video file, usually an mpg, and the video portion of the file "hangs" after a while on playback, while the audio continues to play. Also, the time length of the file is shortened, though the content size remains the same. If I advance the progress bar, I will see still images. I doubt that this is the fault of Limewire. Perhaps this file is compressed and my players are not able to uncompress. Thanks in advance for any enlightment you can send my way. JACK |
What player are you using? It might be a codec issue. For codecs see: http://www.free-codecs.com/ OR http://www.divx-digest.com/software/nimo_pack.html Not sure if GSpot would be helpful here but it can identify which codecs you need: http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ But yes it could be something to do with the way it was encoded. It could have been a poor quality encoder or encoded at too high or low a bit-rate. Your comp might be struggling to handle it. |
Problem Playing Certain Video Files Thanks for the response. I generally use Windows Media Player, but have tried others with these particular files with no luck. That being said, I DID follow some advice elsewhere in this forum since my earlier post and downloaded the player from videolan.org and, voila, it plays the files in question just fine! Meanwhile, I will check into those web sites you suggested and see if I can improve my knowledge and my media capabilities at the same time. Thanks again! JACK |
