Default slow downloads recently

I've been using Limewire for probably two years now and the downloads have always been fast. Two weeks ago, my friend who uses the same ISP as me (Optimum Online) here in NY called me and asked whats up with Limewire and the slow downloads. I checked for myself and I'm having the same problem now. Most downloads are around 1-2Kbps, if they start at all. I'm using the Linux version of Limewire 4.8.1.

Is anyone else having this problem, that didn't in the past? Is it possible that OptOnline is throttling our bandwidth for P2P apps?

Thanks

It's possible. Try deleting your LW preferences whilst LW is closed. Make a note of your settings 1st before you do this so it'll be easier to reset them next time you open LW. I think the location for Linux: ~/.limewire

This sometimes cleans out some corruption or other by freshening up the prefs. If this doesn't work then your isp might be at fault as you suggested.

i been using optimum online since it first came out here in long island and the first few years there was no problems with them. but around 2003 they started blocking and holding bandwidth for alot of the popular P2P programs out now. i had huge problem with WINMX and Optimum Online and i found that you need to use certain ports for UDP and TCP to access winmx peer perfectly...

with limewire pro for me. the downloads recently got stuck around 1-2 KB/s, what i did to fix that error was reset my settings to default and completely restarted limewire. but make sure you backup your incomplete files

go to Options and anywhere in the options section there is button twards the bottom in the middle that says "restore defaults" and click that and completely close limewire and restart it and it will run the "first run setup" to re config the program.

thats what i did and it worked my downloads are back to normal.
like i posted before i think the problem here is a windows update that does somthing to the limewire settings or registry entries.

hope that help...cause it did for me...

I renamed the ~/.limewire directory, started Limewire which prompted me with the setup wizard that I completed. After connecting, the problem is still occurring.

I'm going to call (or email) my ISP and ask them flat out if they are doing anything. I'll keep you updated.

I never had this problem with OptOnline until this month.....thats of course assuming that they are at fault.

I'm not using WinBlows, so this doesn't pertain to me. The fact that Linux users are having the same issues most likely proves that Windows Update is not at fault.

heh winblows..thats a good one...but i prefer windows over anything else..anyway, yea.. i use adelphia internet services (cable)
and my downloads did the same thing for a while...they just slowed WAY down, or didnt run at all...but just now they seem to have picked up.. i am used to getting maybe 160 kb's per sec, and being grinded to 1-2 kb's per second was VERY frusterating..but it is gone now..no idea what causes the problem.

I don't know either, but hopefully it will go away soon because Limewire is hands down the best P2P client I've used on Linux. Regular downloads are fine, I just downloaded a few .iso's from a website at 500kbps.
