Default Bogus file names

Hello everyone. I have only just joined this forum, so if I make a mistake please forgive me. I don't even know if I have been accepted yet either.

It's taken me half an hour to work out how to send a message, and hope that I'm in the Limewire area and not the Gnutella area. However, I'll get the hang of it in time.

My concern is, that I have spent the past 5 days trying to download a file (706.3Mb). I use Limewire 4.8.1 on one computer (on my other desk) and the new beta version 4.9.8. The name of the file was H**y P**r and the G**e, it turned out to be "The Frighteners", much to my dissapointment. Hundreds of people have been downloading that file from me. I have tried to inform the uploaders up have the chat symbol.

Since I found out what the actual name of the file was I have renamed it. I just wanted to inform people in here about it. I hope I have done the right thing.

if you want to discuss piracy, do it somewhere else please. the administrators of this site do not want to be responsible for the choices that are made by the users themselves. did you read the rules before posting?

Ultracross, thank you for your expedient response.

I did read your rules/codes of conduct as I always do before signing up with any Group.

As I mentioned, when I posted my first message to this Group this afternoon, I said that I was new in here and that I may make some mistakes. I had no idea that my comment was even related to piracy nor that it had presumeably breached a Code of Conduct, so I apologise for my first mistake.

I was only wanting to say that the details of some files are misleading. i.e. one searches for **** and gets a totally different file. I certainly meant no harm.

Default ****

this happens all the time (i only download my mates home videos), the best way i have found to check your files is this:-

wait until you have downloaded about 5meg or so
go to you INCOMPLETE folder and look for the in complete file
copy the file to another location.

now view the copied file (if its an avi file use DIVX to view it)

that sure save you loadsa time.

IMP

False file names, along with viruses, trojans, worms, adware, spyware, hackers, fake files, etc., are just some of the problems P2P users face.

Protect your PC as best you can and welcome onboard, its a fun ride.

Before d/ling anything", be it "trailers", "demos" or "trial" apps, right click on the file you would "like" to do a download of and do a Bitzi Search.

Later, if you are doing an .avi or .MP4 file it is simple to check. For .avi click your DivX Player on your desktop (you do have DivX Player, don't you) click on file open icon, go to you incomplete folder, and click on it. Be sure your incomplete file is several hundred kb in length to check the opener.

.MP4 is done much the same way but I use Quick Time Player for those files.

Never mention file names or request any file names here.

This is for BETA testing posts so be sure to post in the right area.

And, yes, there are a lot of "bogus" files that have been renamed.
Welcome to the boards.

Thank you Deacon72. I'll check the Bitzi Search and see what it does.
