?????????? Can somebody explain the following:- 1. If I download a file from modem to modem will it be a better download? 2. What do cable/dsl, modem, T1 and T3 or higher mean and how do they affect downloads? 3. What is the minimal optimal limit to set downloading to? Some people say 10 at a time, but do you think less than that would optimise downloading? |
in theory you will get a slow transfer from a modem, quicker from aCable DSL then faster again from TI and even faster T3. However the categories you see are entered manually by each user and they are, I suspect not always filled in correctly <G>. Also consider that a high speed host might attract more downloaders, which could mean that they are permanently busy. There are a lot of corrupt files out there and they seem to come largely from T3. There are of course good T3 hosts although I have yet to find one! I often see the same file from a T1, modem and cable and quite often the one described as modem will come in quickest. The quality of the files should not be affected by the speed. ....but then there are the conspiracy theorys etc ...... |
