Question Problems with uploading because of firewall - i think!

hello

would appreciate some help with this. ive had limewire for a week now and to the best of my knowledge it is all working as it should be, with the exception that no one uploads from me. if i look in library, i have hits, but no uploads.

have spent time looking through the various threads and followed through some useful bits from lord of the rings - think that i have established that i must be behind a firewall. i have tried using the limewire help page and also the suggested links from other forum users, but no success as yet! i have been into my network connections, right clicked on properties, gone to advanced and added gnutella and it STILL doesnt seem to work! but when i did the bug check it came out as false, so i think that means a firewall.

however, i cant find the firewall which i use on my laptop in the examples on the limewire help page. also, how do i know if im using a windows firewall as well?

i admit to being clueless about all the techie stuff, but i am able to follow simple instructions

thanks peeps!

ok if using windows: in your control panel, go to network connects, and it should tell you if your windows firewall is enabled or disabled, disable it while downloading, then turn it back on after you are done using Limewire, you can right click, bring up properties and uncheck it to turn it off, then double check all your Limewire settings for uploading, downloading and sharing. Limewire sets everything as default, but you can always make adjustments. also, it could be they haven't discovered you yet, give it sometime. if you still have no uploading activity, it could just be the network acting up and has nothing to do with your end. once school startsup, all the freeloaders will be back on their school computers dling.

hello

thank you, that made things a little clearer. but i decided i didnt want to disable my windows firewall totally when im using limewire.

maybe you were right re just not finding me yet, cos i just looked and someone is (finally!) uploading from me. so, i think maybe its a combination of things (that means im not entirely sure how it happened!).

There shouldn't be any need to disable your firewall. Just configure it to allow LW full access; (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

hi

i use the trend package for computer security stuff. ive been to that link you gave before (followed someones else's recent thread) and followed thru all the instructions. trend doesnt come up in teh list given on the link. i think ive allowed LW for the windows firewall, but maybe i havent managed to do it for the trend one?

mmh, didnt know i had 2 firewalls - maybe will disable the windows one and leave the trend one?

apologies for being clueless, but thanks lots for help

Hi ChickPea77

I don't run trend, but NIS - Norton Internet Security.

I have disabled, turned off windows firewall, as it does conflct with NIS.

Whichever firewall you decide to use, make sure you allow LimeWire access for both TCP and UDP.

Might check out the help in trend or there website. They probably have instructions how to do this.
