slow downloads

i was using version 4.8 of limewire and everything was fine. then i upgraded to 4.9 and now everything is so slow to download its almost not worth it.... does anyone have any idears why...

ok, I have exactly the same problem. version 4.9.11 downloads at about 10 times slower than 4.8.1. (I tried it with the very same file/same sources)

my config:
Windows XP SP2
AMD 2800+
1024 MB RAM
Dial up connection
Java Version 1.5.3
Kerio Personal Firewall 4.2.0
NOD32 AV
and I consider myself as an experienced LimeWire user.

Me too. A very noticeable drop off in maintaining the same speeds for downloads.

thankyou grandpa for you help... i have tried all that u have said but has made no difference i'm afraid. seems that all file downloads i attempt are the same... speed goes up to 10k/sec max then drops to zero for 30 seconds or so then goes up to 10k/sec and so on.... always the same no different no matter what i try..

I noticed this too. All 2.9.X versions of Limewire have this problem. I notice it particularly since I'm on dialup. I have a 15 MB download here which was running earlier. It now reports 6,144 KB downloaded, 1 % complete, and it was running at about .04 MB/second.

Ok people there are allot of things that may or may not be causing your problems. All your problems have the same symptoms but may be caused by different problems. The link below has allot of fixes for different issues start with the post by Lee Evans on configuring LimeWire and work your way down from there. LimeWire is changing rapidly and some fixes we may not know yet but as solutions are discovered they will be posted. Allot of you need to supply more Info. With the information klaount supplied I can tell that his problem probably is not an issue with memory,cpu,OS , but I can not rule out java because he didn't tell me if he tried the fixes in the previous link. My guess would be firewall configuration though but not sure. Anyway you need to remember I or no one else but you are sitting in front of you cpu and without the proper information it is very tough to help you.
