Default advice needed on how to stop sharing folders

I wrote about this a month ago, and I still can't prevent this from happening...

Basically, every thing I'm downloading is being shared. I'm not a novice, I know how to configure LW. I know how to stop folders from being shared and I have a folder I download to - I then move what I want to my shared folder. But since LW updated about a month ago (and again, it's now version 4.9.11) everything I download is automatically shared. The option I have is for just my shared folder to do that - share. But all my downloads are being shared too, unless I move them from their folder (I have a seperate folder for downloads) to another folder and move them back. Anything I then download is shared. The files I moved back aren't then shared (I don't normally move them back, I just did this to test if it still happened).

If I install my old version of LW, 4.8.1, it performs exactly how I want it too - ie it only shares files in my "shared" folder.

I think this is a bug, but unless I really am overlooking the obvious can anyone tell me how to stop sharing files that go to my "saved" folder. (the folder could be called anything - that's the name I've given it).

I know they're being shared - people are uploading from them. In my Options I have only my "shared" folder to share. Unless I can sort this out, I'll again have to reinstall a previous version of LW, which I'd rather not do.

Thanks

Robbie

and whats wrong with sharing with what your taking? to me, its very greedy. how would p2p work if noone shared? but anyways.. yes, LimeWire can be configured to not share what you download.. but this tip remains underground it is in options. just look at them more carefully.

there's nothing wrong with sharing - without it the whole network would grind to a halt!. But I don't want to share everything - there's a big difference! Plus it gives the downloader the chance to preview the music in case it's mislabelled etc - which helps the network. I'd hardly call that being greedy. I also know how to configure LW, I've been using it for quite some time. I'm on about how the latest versions seem to have a fault with the way they allow you to configure them.

There are 2 ways I"m aware of that you can stop sharing certain files if that is what you really want to do!!!

1st in the LW library higlight the file and single right click then click stop sharing. "Warning Do Not Click Delete" if you do the files are gone period. You will have to get a file recovery program to get them back.

2nd in LW tools>options>sharing ---- shared folders ---- you can highlight the folder then click the remove button --- then click apply then okay. This will remove that folder from being shared.

cheers. I'm not trying to stop sharing files, I'm trying to stop sharing the files to start with. That doesn't mean I'm not wanting to share files. I just don't want to *automatically* share files I download.

Anyway, I've sorted the problem by reverting to a previous version of LW.

I use 4.8.1, and I am not keen to change it. however I dabbled with a couple of new betas and there is a new setting which, by default, puts all newly downloaded files, whether destined for your shared folder, or not, straight into share. I immediately dissabled this. I guess that is the same thing in 4.9.11. I agree that it is agood idea to check files before putting them back as so many are incomplete, jumpy, or totally misslabelled.

Ialso do not share everything I download. Those files I do not share are so common they are everywhere, and most of what I share is not shared at any one time by more than a couple of hosts maximum and I would rather keep my bandwith free for people who want my wierd stuff without waiting in a queue behind a host of uploaders of popular stuff.
