only 8 Hosts

Is there a limit of how many hosts u can download from in the basic free limeware, if not how can i increase the number of hosts ?

CyberStalker August 18th, 2005 01:55 PM

I have the basic LimeWire as well and the default setting for maximum downloads is eight. You can change it by clicking on Tools>Options>Downloads.

alboi August 18th, 2005 02:10 PM

read the post carefully
i asked for the number of host to download from not number of downloads ... big difference

et voilà August 18th, 2005 02:29 PM

You can't. This would be ridiculous if it was user configurable as this would unoptimze the network and slower the download speeds for those who don't know how to do it. It has been proven in P2P network technologies that user configurable options could lead to abuse or disaster.

Ciao

Stay polite. I answered your question, really. If you can't understand my answer THEN it shows how little you know and you should respect our answers. We owe you nothing, this is not with that attitude that you'll get help

I was REALLY talking about dling from 8 sources /per download.... (on LW basic with cable/DSL speed, that is)

"frenchie"? hahahaha, non je suis québécois, ignorant!

AFAIK there is no limit per se of the number of hosts. AS there is no limit there is no way you can increase the number of hosts .. Does that make sense.

You are limited by what your bandwith will allow and AFAIK that is all.

I did not answer before because the answer was bleeding obvious.

If I have missunderstood your question, or if my answer is a load of crap, which is quite probable, please keep it to yourself. We may be a bunch of idiots to you but we are inclined to look after our own .... even the Canadians:D :D :D

Any good hacker could probably do what you want but all that would do is kill the network. Because hogs would try to download from as many sources as possible and use up all of the resources available for just a few users with no consideration for others. This has happened with other p2p networks and has virtually destroyed them.
LimeWire is pretty much fair to all who use it and that is one of the reasons it is so popular. And as far as you Frenchie comment you can put that where the sun doesn't shine. And go to some other p2p network we don't need your type here.

Thank you Grandpa for saying what you did. I too would have commented on that particular person's attitude but I would have broken some of the forum's rules.;)

lol,
The final point beeing that the feture is not configurable. And as far as my fenchie comment get over it. It wasnt meant in complete insult, in any case, i think the claim that it puts a strain on the network B.S. that doesn't hold water. secondly, Not beeing fair to others, my friend i transfer in average 8G of misc. data, so i can serve as an example of what a P2P user should be. If i spent hours of phone/computer work to provide a cracked game or decoded movie then i have a right to ask a dumb question as i did earlier. None the less, i am looking into changin the 8 host issue. I have many projects waiting do get done so this (limeware) will come last on the to do thing.

chief my total is 620G+ don't try to relate .. i have supported P2P from the days of Napster ... most of you are rookies here .. i asked a simple question, it was referred as ridiculous and i was given bogus reasons why it shouldn’t be so. Sorry for becoming lazy and asking the question in the first place.
