MeatPopsicle August 19th, 2005 07:16 AM

The same happened to me, but not just in Limewire. I could get up to 30KB/s on my downloads in Limewire and Shareaza and now suddenly the highest speed i can reach in either is about 5KB/s.

Normal FTP/HTTP downloads and browsing websites are fine, its just the P2P thats slowed down..

I also have an ADSL connection

your isp may be filtering/throttling p2p technology.

tips: download files that have the most sources available.

download files from a range a speeds. if you download only from t1/t3 sources, sometimes these t1/t3 sources get overloaded with people and there up speed suffers. downloading from a cable or modem user will sometimes be faster than those overloaded t1/t3 sources.

I am assuming you are using ADSL since before you got 40kb you said modem which would be 56k and 5 or 6kb would be a good speed for 56k. Have you done a speed test lately. If so what were the results. A little more information would be helpful.

grandpa,

okay did that speed test, it said Download speed is 36kbps
and Upload speed is 79kbps. (surely not right)

My details are:

OS windows xp
CPU P4 3.0 ghz
Memory 384mb of ram
connection is DSL (sorry)
Limewire 4.9.23
Antivirus is McAfee
Firewall is McAfee
java see below

Im relatively new to Limewire, went with Pro from the start.
No probs until now. I have a basic understanding.

Work away so havent used Limewire for 2wks,(got back wed)

Limewire asked me if I wanted 2 update. said yes.

Lime wire looked the same but had new icons at the bottom.

Then noted that speed was low.

Followed your link (updated java)

Limewire looks different, light blue colour... at first when activated speeds seem okay, maybe up to about 20-30 kbs but will slowly reduce after ten mins I check and its now staying roughly at 2kbps.

I deactivated when ever I made any of the changes.

Oh yeah just remembered!! - when I first updated, my internet connection closed of its own accord a few times, interfering with limewire ofcourse. Also kept getting a internet dial-up box that I had never seen before, that would just pop up out of nowhere.

Anyway think thats everything....

Thanx for taking the time grandpa, any help is much appreiated

If you know how try resetting your DSL modem usually disconnecting it from the power source for 30 seconds will work. Try resetting it I do not know that this will fix your problem but it may. I know that it helps with my router I get the same lopsided speed test you got when it needs to be reset. but I have never had to reset my modem. Also did you check with your ISP to see if they recently started filtering p2p networks.
