Default Firewall Problems, Help Please

I have been changing p2p prorgams rapidly for the passed few days, and I am fed up with it. I like limewire as it has more of the kind of music I like that any of the other programs I have been using. The problem is that when i try to download the songs, they rarely connect, its status remains 'connecting' for days without actually connecting. Or it can't find sources. I think this may be becasue of a my firewall, but I'm not sure how to set it up to avoid this problem, can sumone explain how to fix this, or suggest other possible problems?

Are you in Windows? Is so, what version of Windows do you have? If you have XP do the following: If in Windows, go to control panel, network connections, open it and right click on properties, bring up your local connection, that will tell you if you have your Windows firewall enabled or disabled, if enabled, disable it while downloading then turn it back on after your exit Limewire. If you're not in windows then you will have to provide a little more detail about your system and the type of firewall you are running. Also check your Limewire connection & make sure you are connected to the internet and to Limewire while downloading. Its very easy to lose connections when on your desktop unless you got an always on connection. Hope this helps?

I'm not so sure totally disabling your firewall is a wise idea for security reasons. Instead, configure it to allow LW full access; (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); see Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Also, see the following link & follow all the off-shoot links to find hints & extra skills to help solve your problem: To continue files downlding (click on link)

If LimeWire and you firewall is configured properly having you firewall on should not make a difference in you ability to download.I have done quite a bit of testing with firewalls I have even tested the dreaded no no run Norton firewall Windows Firewall and the firewall in my router all at the same time. As long as they are configured right there is no problem. Disabling your firewall is not a good idea an not advisable.

Windows Firewall is pretty easy to configure Just go to Start/Control Panel/Windows Firewall/Exceptions/Add programs in the add programs find the current version of limewire you are running and click on it then click OK. It should then show up in the exceptions window. But you say you are running other protection if you are using another firewall then there is no need to run the windows firewall.
