im using ares right now. wanted to give limewire a try. speeds are slower on limewire. the maximum hosts it connects to is 4 even tho its a popular file. Unlike ares it connects to ton of hosts. Is there a way to increase the number of hosts?

heres some screenshots. Im on 512 adsl connection.

Ares: 15 Users = 50+KB/s

Limewire: Connection = Excellent Firewall = Off. 432 Users = 15KB/s MAX!!!!

LW basic with a cable/dsl connection will attempt to dl from 8 hosts simultaneously.

You were dling from 5 users in Ares (15 sources) versus 4 users in LW (432 sources). Ever thought that some sources are sometimes faster than others? Tried to repeat the experience many times instead of one particular case?

If Ares is better for you, than use it, it is a good P2P, but with much less selection than Gnutella.

May be you was using them (ie LW and Ares) in the same time... and your downloading bandwidth has a limit...

So if you first started the download in Ares, then LW used what left from your downloading bandwidth as efficient as it could... (so if what left from your downloading bandwidth was about 14KB/s then 4 host were enough)

sorry for posting the images.. i wasnt using both at the same time. Yes i tried many times and seems that i get thrice the speed i get from limewire using ares. Limewire is cool but not meant for me i guess.

Hey I'm really telling you the truth... I'm having the same problem as you but with Ares... and could make some screen cap. too if don't belive me....

I've had dls faster in Ares and others in LW. Point is that LW is multiplatform, open source, the Gnutella is an open protocol and the LW devs post here; things I can't say about Ares...
