Should I see my shared file in a search if it has not been downloaded yet? If I am sharing a file but no one has downloaded it yet should it come up in a search on the computer that I am sharing it from or will it only show on my search after someone has downloaded it and decided to share it as well. Also is the answer to the above standard to all Gnutella clients or just LimeWire? |
No it wouldn't make any sense for LimeWire to search your own computer. And yes that is true for all of the Gnutella net as far as I know. The only p2p program that I know of that will show results from your own computer in the search results is WinMx and I do not believe it is suppose to but occasionally it does it will come up in your Q. |
thanks, the reason I asked is I want to make sure my file is accessible. Is there a web interface to Gnutella where one can do a search to see if ones files appear as I do not have another computer to try a search on. |
I do not know perhaps another member does. |
If you type your own ip no into Direct connect you should see your share as other hosts would see it. This does not always work for me but a second try 10 mins later usually gets it. It is useful in that I can see easily what is wrongly tagged .. and also the occasional file might turn up with out a propper title which was fine last time I checked and it may turn out to have "died" I don't know why this happens, but this method will help keep things straight. |
thanks :) |
