Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk Greetings one and all When I try to delete a file in my Library, it says, "Unable to Delete the File. It may be in use by another application and when I try to delete the file on my PC I get the "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk"... I have tried numerous solutions online from the Limewire and Microsoft Support Sites and have even googled the problem, but nothing is working and this little file with a byte size of zero is just sitting there, taunting me and I want it gone... PULEEEEEEEZE HELP ME! It does not open with any program, by the way.... Any assistance would be greatly appreciated... Thanx Saliann7 |
Does the file have a name and extension? Have you checked for vruses etc? |

Thanx for coming back to me.... The file has no extension and in the details information it just states: "025 - Bony Moronie" (which is the name of a song) and where it normally has MP3 Format Sound it just says "File" and nothing else and the date modified.. In properties, there is one only tab "General" and the information listed for the file is brief, namely: name of track, where it is located, type of file: file, and the byte size which is listed as 0 (zero)... It does not have the normal WMP or RP icon next to it like other downloaded tracks either.... I have scanned for viruses etc., and it is clean.... It's just there, serving no purpose and messing with my head.... Do u think it has anything to do with the fact that the byte size is down as nil, maybe? It's definitely not being used by another application cause, there is nothing to use, if you know what I mean....? Advance Thanx Saliann x |
Hi saliann7 restart the computer then try to delete it Sgt |
I'll say at least generally when that happens it's due to the file being shared. ie: Shutdown LW & you should be able to delete the file. Rebooting will definitely do the job. Unless of course it's a virus in which case you'd need an anti virus program to delete it. |
Sorry Lord of the Rings Not always on a Windows Xp system Sometimes you have to boot into safe mode to do it, but even that doesn't work sometimes, then you have to get a program that delets undeletable Files. Sgt |

I thought it may have been a sharing violation, too, so closed everything down, actually un-installed LW and tried again... I have scanned for virus and it came back clean... there is no byte size in this file though, it is down as 0 (zero).... I will keep trying and see if McAfee can delete it... Thanx 4 coming back 2 me:) |
