"Y" the heck would you want to convert one "lossy" format to another? That means like taking a sack of beans, taking out half in order to convert it to mp3, then taking out more beans in order to convert it to mpeg4 (m4a/mp4.) I mean, why lose more beans (quality?) I'd hate to lose my beans. lol

IF your asking about iTunes/iPod then please specify & the reasons "Y"???

I have downloaded some tunes using LimeWire and they have saved in MP3 format but all my other tunes on my IPOD are MPEG4 and I can't load the tunes from LimeWire onto my IPOD so figured it was because they were in different formats and thought if I converted the MP3s to MPEG4s that would solve the problem

mp3s play on an iPod ... no problem! Are you putting all your iTunes tunes on iPod or just some?

The songs must be in your iTunes library first. Don't get confused with the LW playlist that appears within iTunes. Those songs are not within your actual iTunes Music Library folder but instead, still in your LW downld folder. See How to transfer music to my iPod (& iTunes) As Only A Hobo said, there's no reason to convert any songs. Just import them into your iTunes library & then send them to iPod from there. iPod will recognise both mp3 & m4a & more types.
