slow download speeds using broadband Hi i'm using a belkin ADSL modem and router combo to access the internet and am having a few speed issues. It seems to be whenever i connect to p2p networks as i have had this problem with other programs suck as "kazaa". I have tried turning off all the firewall settings but still no luck. Checking my security log feature through my router it appears that some connections are timing out and it seems to be timing out on limewire's isp. I am really stuck now and have tried everything...I think. My download speeds vary from 0kb/sec to 7kb/sec which is bad sen has i have been mostly downloading from ppl with fast connections and can in theory reach at least 50kb/sec. My speeds are fine however when downloading directly from the internet. Hope this can point someone in the right direction to solve this problem. Jam440 |

does the belkin use the ethernet cable or a USB cable? The USB connections have a bad reputation for maintaining the number of connections needed for most p2p apps another check would be to call your ISP and ask if they filter or disallow p2p packets. |

Hi well i have 2 computers in the network one is connected directly using ethernet cable and the other is vis the usb adaptor. Yeah i did think of calling tiscali but before when i was using the usb ADSL modem THEY supplied me with sownloading from p2p networks worked fine and i got quite high speeds. The easy option would be to just switch back to usb modem i had before but kind of defeats the idea of having a router in the first place. Just hoping someone has had this problem in the past as i want to try and avoid explaining it to tiscali over the phone! Jam440 |

setting up a home network can be tricky, but the UPnP settings should help (in LW's Advanced Firewall options). If not, force each machine to have a unique static IP and port. Then find out how to set the router to "forward" the port to the proper static IP. Once done, each machine will be able to "accept incoming connections" (use that search term to find the details on this forum), you can set thre port in the manual section of LW's options, and your speeds should improve. I know: easier said than done |

Jam440 You might want to check out the link below tiscali is one of the ISP that is know to block or limit p2p traffic in some areas. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=33712 |

Ok so it appears that it may be Tiscali who are doing this but is there any way to bypass my wan address? It seems to be that, which is blocking the ip addresses needed by limewire and other p2p programs? I can download fine straight from a website so maybe i can somehow download the files from limeiwre like that??? Not sure!! Jam440 |

been messing about all day with this and have come to the conclusion that i will have to change from tiscali as they seem to be getting a lot of stick and very bad reports from people all over the net!! can anyone suggest an isp that will not block p2p networks? Jam440 |

Indeed i can, as i was with Tiscali and realised they were the common denominator in cauing my slow downloads in P2P software so i went-a-searchin and found e7even I have now switched to them and can say for the week or so ive been with them i have had no problems whatsoever. The service is excellent speed, the packages com with some great extras like static IP, games servers and PHP, CGI, Pearl scripting on your webspace! All for a fatastic price!!
