jerky avi only on one computer Hi, I came across a thread regarding files playing jerky as if there weren't enough frames in the file or something. I recently encountered the same problem on this computer but when I transferred the file to a newer computer it worked fine. What's the likely cause for that? Is there anything I can do on this computer short of upgrading it? I tried a search on google and came up with a programme called ReClock that would supposedly help but it didn't seem to do anything. Cheers |

I'm pretty sure I have all the necessary codecs. I have a programme called GSpot which is supposed to tell you if you're missing codecs and it didn't pick up anything missing. I have several different players I've tried ranging from Media Player to PowerDVD to Leadtek Winfast DVD and none seem to manage. They all played it but it was as if all the frames weren't there. The sound is in time but it's like watching an animated film that's been done on the cheap and skips from scene to scene without fluid movement (I hope that makes sense). Also, the programme I used on the other computer was one that I used on this one too and as far as I know the codecs on the other computer are the same as on this one although the other computer is considerably newer than this one. |

hmm, what OS are you using and sound cards? are you on a brand new computer? The files on P2P sometimes do get corrupt and dont play very well. I had that happen on a very old machine until I bought a newer model. it could be for a numner of reasons, check your hardware for updates and drivers. |

The OS I'm on is XP Home. The soundcard I'm not sure about. I'm guessing I look somewhere in the Control Panel for that? It is a pretty old computer that's been upgraded about a billion times so it may just be that and nothing more but I figured if there was a way I could cheat to fix the problem then that'd be sweet as : ) |

I dont know if you can cheat on an old computer. You go to control panel, and go to you system setup and click on and that will tell you your information on your computer. I had one of those kind of clunky computers beaten too death until it died and had to get a newer Dell. You might be able to update your drivers to see if that helps? |

There's quite a few different things in there and I'm not sure what bit I'm meant to be looking at. Do you have an example perhaps of what it might say? |
