5 Seconds Hey everyone. Something weird has been happening when I d/l a file from Limewire. I will finish the d/l and when I go to play it, it will only show about 5 second of the movie/music clip and then start all over from the beginning. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling Limewire, but that hasn't worked....same thing still happens. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot! |

False File Hey 31K (like the name) Chances are you have downloaded a false file, there are loads of them on the P2P network. Unfortunately, I have also downloaded false files, the latest was, I thought, a film clip but it turned out to be an album of "Hillbilly" music. Live and learn UK Bob |

Are you playing them thrugh the limewire player? Try opening them with different players ... eg. Real Player etc and see if this always happens btw Are you saying it does this continuosly or just once at the start of a file? |

It does this continuosly at the start of the file. For example...I downloaded "Jingle Bells". All I would get was "Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the....Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the....Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the....Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the...." over and over and over. Just the first 5-7 seconds of any file I download. Weird. |

Try VLC which has in-built codecs. Now if vlc can't play the whole thing then i'd have doubts. Also get GSpot which will tell you if you need specific codecs to play a particular file. How large is the file? CODECs list and alternate players for Movies You never mentioned the file format of the file in question. Some hints about video files: 1. Movie download issues 2. Learn to use Bitzi lookup to see if there's any user feedback on the file in question: How to use Bitzi Web Lookup ... 3. Try previewing your video files as you downld them so you know whether the quality is ok or is the correct file you're after, etc.

I could understand if it was just a file here or a file there. But this is EVERY file and it just started doing that outta nowhere. I've downloaded hundereds of songs/vids and never had a problem 'til just now. Oh and the files range in size. Some small like 1 song, others very large as in an entire movie. It has been doing this on .avi files, .wmv, .mpeg, .mov, and mp3 as well. |

Players and Codec 31k I must admit that I have never come across a problem like this before, it sounds like something within your system has become corrupt. I would only suggest this as a last resort but unless you can retrace your steps to see what you have done or, maybe, you can supply some more info so that another member can figure this out, I would suggest that you do a full reformat and reinstallation of your O/S.
