check your firewall that may cause limewire cannot acces to internet

Things seem to have sorted themselves. I deleted the .limewire folder and when I restarted the searches came back.

i have tried everything that lord of the rings has suggested
but still no improvement whatsoever

but any further suggestions would be appreciated
or even if you know of anywhere i can download an old version of l/w to see if that makes a difference
or even if you know of another free p2p site that is as good as l/w ( this i doubt cos when l/w is working it is SUPERB )

the only thing it does is remove your personal settings for l/w
the next time you open l/w you will have to configure all of you settings the same as when you first installed it, (just things like language, files to share0 its not a major hassle it takes less than a minute but its worth it if it helps you
