This is very annoying as i have only started getting problems since purchasing Pro when i was using Basic I had no problems for well over 18 months Any suggestions would be appreciated but please be warned i dont understand computer jargon by the way i am running XP sp 2

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Who is your internet service provider? I hope they haven't decided to start filtering you b/c you're using LW.

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

SORRY I FORGOT TO ADD
if i keep exiting fully and restarting limewire eventually i get a connection sometimes it could be first try other times it can be 50 tries
and there is no set time limit for staying connected it just drops whenever it wants max time i have been connected is about 40 mins Many Thanx for all your help so far It Is Very Much Appreciated:D

Lord of the Rings October 30th, 2005 05:28 PM

For a start, disable your XP firewall: go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box. And make sure Panda 2005 Platinum internet security is properly configured to allow LW/Gnutella.

Sometimes when swapping from Basic to Pro it's wise to delete the LW prefs folder; delete your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 in Fixes for Limewire (sample at bottom of page.)

See if there's any improvement. Give it plenty of time to connect. At least 30 mins. You can even go to menu bar, file>disconnect, wait a minute & then choose connect after this time to try again. BTW is the sagem f@st 800 E2T a router or simply a modem?

jimbob walton October 30th, 2005 10:56 PM

hi there
my xp firewall is disabled
panda platinum is configured to allow limewire full access
i have deleted the preference folder on several occasions
and the sagem f@st 800 E2T is just a usb modem
Many Thanks for all your help and advice so far :D :D :D :D :D :D

I, too, cannot seem to get any search results. I have only recently joined Limewire and had no problems downloading until today. Last night I noticed that every search result included one of 134.4KB matching the search parameter but in fact an ad for some other website. Is it malware/virus and could this have been the cause?

I am with One.tel and have no idea whether they block Limewire

dichorionic October 31st, 2005 01:40 AM

BTW whenever I submit a search the ONLY result I get is for this 134.4 KB file.
