poor download speeds Hi all, Just got Limewire Pro 4.9.33 running on mac os x 10.4 via IP/iburst wireless ethernet adaptor. Speeds for anything else as quoted by iburst (1mb/s download...) Speeds I'm getting for Limewire downloads... 1-2kb/s at best...! Have read forums esp stickies and get no joy from FAQs. Have set preferences to enhance good downloads still no joy - pointless using if this slow... any help? Maybe it's the wireless modem? All I can think of.... Cheers, C. |
Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version? (eg: Mac OS 10.4.1) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 12. After LW's been open at least 15 mins, do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False? These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is. |

Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. No probs at all on old cable broadband am exp user 12. After LW's been open at least 15 mins, do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False? Don't know how to do this...? These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is. LOTR, hope this info is enough for you. I've talked to my IP here in Australia, Chilli Iburst and they say no ports blocked so no firewall. I have not set up any other firewall or security on my IP or browsers. One concerning matter is when I went to the support page at LW home I couldn't get anywhere. As I'm a pro user I'm entitled to email support but when I go to submit my query all I get is the sign up for Pro page... hmmm. I tried to contact LW via their media enquiries section (I'm a jounalist) but as yet no answer. I'm just really stuck now and quite bummed at the pointlessness of trying to download anything at such bizarrely slow speeds... Cheers friend, goddamit how do you do it?! Clive @ lastnightadj |
I give up :| |
lastnightadj: I'm not aware of any Australian isp's that block or filter p2p sharing. BTW the pro support link is here: http://sales.limewire.com/support/? & you can also email them at service@limewire.com I can say that most wireless systems have some type of firewall. Generally a NAT firewall. The question is whether your devices have UPnP (Universal Plug & Play) capability which allows software that has UPnP abilities to communicate directly with the device to open a port when needed. I found http://www.chilli.net.au/fixed-broadband_equipment.htm on their website. But those might not be wireless ... for fixed use. It looks as though iBurst uses Netcomm equipment. If your device(s) don't use UPnP then the question is whether manual port forwarding is possible. Some Netcomm models can be found here http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm Umm ethernet adaptor!? I'm not sure! Your answer to Q.11 suggests you've swapped from fixed to wireless right? So if things were fine then, what has changed since? The wireless service? Any different devices? It would be handy if you could get a brand & model no. of your device(s). BTW I suspect your answer to Q.12 would be false. To do it, go to LW's preferences >Bug Reports>Press the View Example button, & it could be half or 2/3 way down you'll see Received Incoming this Session: ___ which will be either true or false. False represents some type of firewall. MiKeYI: Your details look fine. It might be related to SP2 I'm not sure. You could apply a SP2 patch which will allow more simultaneous connections. See http://www.lvllord.de/?url=tools & also see THIS & This Other than that, it could be your isp that's the issue. You can also check tips & hints here: See the following link & follow “ALL” the off-shoot links to find hints & extra skills to help solve your problem: To continue files downlding (click on link) Oh I must have been slow posting! |
