Default Anyone happy with downloads of xVid HDTV?

Am I the only who's seeing missing frames (jerky motion) on such downloads? I don't have the problem with other avi downloads. But xVid-created files seem to be missing frames.

Or is it that the originals were captured at a slower frame rate?

What's the format? PAL or NTSC? Since NTSC has 30 (approx.) f/s whereas PAL has 25 f/s (however pal has larger height.) There might have been lossed frames in the conversion depending on the particular person's converter. Some converters can cope with it, perhaps some can't cope very well. There's some cheap nasty converters out there. Did you try VLC - (click on link) __ (choose nearest mirror site)
It might also be due to the ignorance of the person who converted those particular videos. Did you check Bitzi to see if there's any user feedback on those particular files. How to use Bitzi Web Lookup ... BTW you can also use the search function at the Bitzi site.

Thanks for the response.

Given the content the original's gotta be NTSC - same as I'm looking to use. So I'm guessing there's no conversion. Thanks for the Bitzi tip - I'll look for feedback.

So, in principle there should be no reason the download would "drop frames"right?

Then ... Dropped frames I'd suggest being caused by deficiencies in the player or codec of the player, OR as a result of poor conversion from the original source to xVid. Be that due to the converter, user or both.

But then I guess dropped frames can be cpu/ram/graph card issues also. lol

My last thought is you have a blinking/fading out problem! lol

Oh I forgot to mention, the conversion process from HDTV to computer is a question & a half. The capture card is also very much at the heart of the issue also. Dropped frames are a major issue when recording from HDTV due to the massive requirements for the higher definition; ram, cpu speed, "all" line & bus speeds, & HDD speed & whether it is also being used for other purposes. There's potential drops anywhere in the above links/areas of speeds which may result in dropped frames. This relates back to the capture card/device also. Firewire is by far the best for vid transport/capture but still, some silly people use usb.
