Default CODEX question

I have downloaded a few videos. And yes the titles often are changed. It seems that many of them require some codex thing that I don't apparently have in my computer. I searched the internet for codexes. I read inputs about them at different forums that said don't ever pay for a codex. I guess they are shareware or freeware of something. Any how I have trouble with most anything that's not MPG.... It used to be my computer would play about anything. ( This will lead to another question)

I also found that downloading anything that says MOV will take me to an adult side and drop windows and crap on me. I have win-XP and whne that happens my cntrl alt del seems to malfunction and I don't have the "END options and stuff. I get a lot of little green windows on my lower tool bar. I play with them until they get in a group and I close them. But other like AVI just refused to play. Some come up and ask if I want to play them I hit yes and on comes the show.

When I started to download such things as Music Match and now Lime Wire I had Windows Media Player and something else. (The Music Match Icon)Somewhere along the line Real Player took over. It seems that these too PLAYERs steal the music from each other and put their own icons on it.

So far I have enjoyed the reading...

You might also want to get a quicktime player, from Apple, to play those *.mov files.
