Downloading Hi I recently upgraded my connection to a 512 kbs DSL. Now anything I try to download shows 0 kbs or Waiting on busy hosts or More Sources Needed. If I'm lucky, I'll see 1 kbs for a while. It doesn't matter what type of file I try to download. I re-installed LW 4.9.37 accepting all the defaults and making sure my Speed setting showed "Cable/DSL". I tried re-setting it to "Modem" but this didn't help. I have Windows Firewall off. When I was using my old 56k modem, I used to get around 5 kbs at least. I've played with all the settings in LW but can't seem to improve it. If anyone sends me files via email, these seems to download reasonably fast. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? XP Home SP 2 512K DSL Ethernet modem via Ethernet broadband router Trevor |

1. After LW's been open 20 mins or more, do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False? 2. If false then you have a firewall issue. It'd be my guess it's due to your new modem/router. Which brand & model of device is it? Most DSL/ADSL devices use NAT which is a type of firewall. 3. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. BTW rather than go without a firewall at all, it's better to protect yourself by configuring it; (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Hi LOTR Thanks for the reply. Bug report = Received incoming this session: false My router is Dlink DI 604 with two other PCs connected to it but both off while I try to fix this. I'm not using any other P2P programs. I've been reading other posts about Port Forwarding but I'm no expert so not really sure what I'm doing. I followed the instructions about setting up a static IP for this model of router and that appears to have worked. At least I can still connect to the web ok. I also tried entering the internal and external Gnutella ports in Windows Firewall to 35496 but again, have no clear understanding of this as yet. As I say, the internet connection seem unaffected but any download in LW is still 0 kbs. Trevor [Bug Report instructions & sample image[/URL] Is the result True/False? 2. I also use a D-Link & D-Links don't have UPnP ability. That means you'll need to manually port forward. The steps are 1. set up a static ip (most important part.), 2. forward a port. See intructions here: Find your model at bottom left column http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm then click on link, then find Limewire & follow directions for static ip & port setting. On my model I needed to both save settings & reboot modem. I don't know about yours. I use a 504G 3. Last step is to make adjustments within LW; see Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that. BTW after I manually port forwarded, my results improved dramatically!

Downloading Thanks again. I think I've done all that but still no better. I've got my static IP set up. The only setting I don't have in the TCP/IP properties is an alternate DNS server. I've left that blank. All the rest of the settings in LW seem ok. Listen on port 6346 Manual port forward 6346 Service settings for the Gnutella entries for both TCP and UDP are external port number = 6346 internal port number = 6346 I must still be missing something. 1. Recheck your XP firewall settings! 2. Are you sure you don't have any other firewalls? 3. Redo the port forwarding. Chances are you may have done the static ip wrong or some other aspect of the process. It's actually better to do a separate port forward for each of UDP & TCP rather than both together. You did check for manual port forwarding in LW didn't you?! As I suggested on my modem I had to both save settings AND reboot the modem. I'm not sure about your model, but if the options are there then I'd recommend it. Mine's for a mac but here's mine: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...highlight=504g

Downloading Ok, I've checked and re-checked my static IP settings, the port forwarding, my firewall settings etc again and again but I'm unable to see what the problem is (I could still be missing something or doing something wrong). The result is always the same: doesn't matter what file I try to d/l, if it downloads at all, it's 0 to 1 kbs if I lucky. I'm stumped. Trevor |
