incomplete downloads I had an error the other day which stoppped ALL of my incomplete downloads from resuming. I need to know of any programs which can resume or fix the dat files for the incomplete downloads. There must be a dir or file where info of all the files to download are being kept? |
| ||||
Not to my knowledge. You can resume the files but they'll all start from zero % no matter what their size or previous status. Go to LW's Library window, select incomplete folder, select all incompletes & press Resume button & this will force them back into the downld window. This happened to someone else here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=49453 BTW the download preferences are called download.dat & bak & are located in the incomplete folder. I guess if you have this problem happen frequently you could back these files up every week or few days or so (& return them whilst LW is closed.) But it's not something that should continually happen.

Mac OSX is a different kettle of fish. OSX is not so touchy with regards to a crash. However windows is very touchy about the system crashing. I've yet to have my OSX LW prefs become corrupted due to a system crash/freeze. And this happens rarely for me but can since I tend to use multiple programs at the same time. Particularly heavy is video conversion (mpeg2 conversions re: Final Cut Pro.) It happened just a few days ago (kernal panic attack) but no effect upon the LW prefs at all. |

Resume lost or broken downloads - OS X Thanks LOTR, Sounds like we have similarities - I do a lot of Video, transcoding etc.. - & also run Windows boxen (I just don't do the Vid stuff or run Limeware there). I'd agree on "System Crashes', 'tho.... I've only even *seen* 'Kernel Panics'/'Freezes' in OS X a few times in recent years - every time, it was a 'misbehaving'/badly-written Game or some OS-Hardware-Firmware weirdness, usually during a System upgrade/similar. - And every 'freeze' I've been able to get out of - thus far - even if the KBD wasn't responding simply by SSH/Telnet-ing to the box and killing problem processes. But thanks for the tip - as I said, you saved me a LOT of time & frustration (I don't do 'frustrated' well ... *g*). Thanks again. |

freeze vs aborted i have windows, and have had both freeze and today aborted. that's why i'm nosin' round in here. mine usually freezes because of something i did wrong apparently windows is less forgiving than Mac. if my incompletes are lost (turn red) i just restart from 0. my aborted started up where it left off. |

Re: Resume lost or broken downloads - OS X Quote:
me d windows is a lot less forgiving than mac. Due to the way OSX manages ram, it can close off any program that crashes (isolates the ram that the program used), etc. without affecting the system. The program can then be restarted. Whereas windows, like mac os 9 & earlier become unstable after forcing a program to close. However the point you make is a worthy issue to consider. I can't comment but it may also be an issue for mac OSX. |

SSH method for Windows 'freezes' ? Quote:
Interesting LOTR, - I presume that the above method (of getting out of a 'freeze') would work with later versions of Windows, too - *if* a Telnet/SSH/Other service was running.. - as you know, that stuff [like SMB, FTP, VNC Servers etc.] is all 'built in' to Mac OS X (no doubt because of its Free-BSD UNIX base) I'm not sure that that's true of various Win versions - altho' there may be comparable Service(s). It's certainly a *very* valuable technique for 'safely' getting out of a 'unresponsive Computer' problem under OS X. {I must add that, under 10.4/'Tiger' you can now have several users running - using 'Fast User Switching' - each in their own 'space' and remotely-accessible by *any* computer running a VNC Client (which almost any Box is capable of) - it's a bit like each person has their own personal OS X Mac [within sensible/obvious limits], whatever they are actually using - and usually any of those users can use root/admin to locate & Kill the offending Process(es) - right from the GUI !} Amazing stuff ! |

Been there, tried that Been there, tried that. My partials were indeed forced back into the download window...but they show as Status=Disk Problem, Progress=100%. They do NOT begin to reload at ANY percentage. Any other bright ideas, folks? |

Try simply, go to, <start> My Computer, What free space is left on the drive you download to. If its less than 1 gig your VID D/Ls will fail. Make some space . If it dose or dosent work post and let us know. Peace.
