Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Default I thought I was sharing ?? but now

I read lots fo posts.. setting up the program with out a 123 step manual is challenging . Its easy to see how any of us could have missed some thing.. any how ... I'm up and running able to download..

I have set my music folders to be able to share .. or so I thougth .. I have them registered in the shared foldersin the options.

Today while looking in the Library at the far right there are the Hits column and there are several items with up to 18 to 20 hits on them. but the up load column is all 0/0 If I had been sharing items wouldnt there be numbers in this column?

Another reason I thought I was sharing is that the monitor tab has items in the up load box.

Please help if you can.. I want to know if I'm sharing files.. if the default is set to not share - how to change that?

Hello.. and thanks..

the options in the uploads.. (to clear ) is unchecked

I had set the folders in MY Music to share .. when I set up the program.. so that's why I thought I was sharing. that was months ago..

and I do leave the computer running almost 24/7 except for storms and vacations. however I've put another post that no one's replied to yet about my internet being dis abled when lime wire is on.. so just lately I'v been turning it off when I'm working on the internet .. then turn it back on when done.. I'm not sure how long it takes .. but soon after turning on the LW I have to "repair" the wireless network.. to gain axcess again.. this is a bummer.. feel free to comment on that thread if you like look for bbsnooks user.

i have seen the list in the first box.. under the monitor tab.. and know that its.. just the searches that different users are putting in.. and that its not a download..

however the box under it.. I saw yesterday 2 files.. ?? this is what is puzzling?? that I dont think is even in my files.
I did read up in the "OPTIONS" that LW can use my ? computer to do some thing for slower users to down load. an d I guessed that thats what it was doing there.. so I guess that LW is using my computer to aide in the downloads for others.. but I still find it odd that after 3 months.. no one has downloaded any files from my folders.

when I checked yesterday the box that said clear up loads was unchecked. I'm assuming that it is default.. that way or I set it as unchecked when configuring the program.

thanks for sending the users guide.. I've had it open and used it 4 or 5 times.. along with the FAQ
however rarely do I find that they answer all the ??

Thanks Hobo ... much to appriciate your help here.. ( and on that other post too)

One more ?? about default settings..

on the options menu I found ( once and cant find now) a place that limited the # of downloads. . one person could get from my files. i thought it was set at 3..

does that mean that from any member who uses the default settings.. that I can only download 3 files from that user?

I ask this because I like acoustic finger style guitar music.. and there are not as many users that have this style ( compaired to the pop music ). and that if I'm limited to 3 downloads from users that have these files.. that it may be the reason I'm getting so many "awaiting new sources" comments in the status bar.

I wonder why.. I would be able to find the music ... and then not be able to download it .. on so many tunes. and several are partially downloaded an d not able to complete.. over several weeks time.

one more note on my "upload" files in the monitor tab..
there are 8 that say its 100% complete.. and several in the partial progress % done.. along with many more that are at 0% several of those say that the transfer was disrupted.. ( i have had to repair my connection to the net several times.. ) i guess that repairing the network connection would stop the transfer.. that said .. I still have no record of any up loads in the Library folder..

i clicked on the tab at top that show/s the 0/0 to put any that might have been shared at the top and still it says 0.

I wonder if I dont understand just what this is suposed to track .. or if my tracking of the shared files is just not working?

I cked in the statistics of the tool bar and it says that there is 14 -16 kb/s .. on the average being use in the uploads..
so? isnt that sharing ? information..

I'm trying to make this 0/0 up load tab in the library make sence.. help if you can.

Under LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Sharing>Basic you have the option of sharing incomplete files. That's perhaps the files that were uplding you refered to. Also, with the new version of LW, you can share files immediately that have downlded.

For a moment in your comments I thought you were refering to the "idle" mode where LW closes off one ultrapeer whilst the keyboard/mouse has been inactive for a period of time. This UP is not necessary whilst you're not searching etc. & can be made at least temporarily for other users to quickly connect to the network. Normally idle mode does not affect uploads or downlds. However some people have complained it does, but in my experience it hasn't. As you're probably aware by now, some downlds become stale after a while anyway. Either they've gone offline, or traffic between you & them or their upld slots are being busily used up & queued ... etc.

Remember to know how many files you're sharing, see the no. at the bottom of the main window of LW. And the files & folders you are sharing are listed in the Library window (however the saved files & incomplete folder will be listed whether you're sharing them or not!)

Go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options & either downld or Uplds > ... to set those options.

Perhaps a more accurate report is found about uplds by going to LW's menu bar, Tools>Statistics.
But this is a general overall report. It doesn't show specific files' popularity.

Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False?

If false, then you have firewall issues! People would struggle to upld from you in that case!

Default firewall

Ok still tinkering ..

while in the library.. tab.. I looked at the lower left hand of the page.. near the bar's.. that show connection.. the next box over had.. a brick wall looking icon.. when I clicked on it 4 options came up .. and it said my fire wall was on..

I clicked on the item and the firewall aparantly went off..

I thougth I had read enuff and selected to "un block" lime wire from my fire wall .. thinking this may be what is happening to other users.. too .. and this may be why.. there are somany complaints about users not sharing..

and that possiblly there needs to be a post .. to advise all users to check thi s item..

AHHHAA because .. now only after a few minutes.. it shows that once 0/0 up load tab . now has several up loads in it already.. and the once brick looking icon for the fire wall has.. and item sharing 3,343 files..

well it looks like i dodled around enough to get the file sharing working .. but honestly .. I went to configure this more than 5 times.. and only ... when I clicked on the lower left tinie tiny little block.. did it change for me..

I hope other users will find this help ful.. and maybe there will be a better installation.. process.. or directions to the new user.. to check this box specifically.. to ensure .. that we play well with others on this great utility..

bbsnooks..
still has ?? on connectivity.. or why i was getting my inter net shut down when using LW ?? could this have some thing to do with the firewall? could my firewall have been shutting down the connection when some one tried to axcess a file of mine?

thanks oh lord..

i'm really confused.. I did the bug report .. it says false at the "recieved incomming this session" however it says right above it the # of active up loads is one..

so .. how could this mean the firewall is stopping LW and yet I have an up load going right now.?

the box in the lower left cornor says I'm sharing files 3K or so and the bug test says I'm still fire walled..

problem not yet fixed it seems..

bbsnooks..

Oh lord give me patience because if you give me strength I'll just kill it.. with a big hammer..

It's still possible to be firewalled but have one out of a hundred actually force their way thru to get a downld. That's one of LW's abilities. But the % of this being successful is extremely low. So ...

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Did you set your modem/router for UPnP? Here's a Linksys example: Linksys UPnP setting (click on link)

What brand & model of modem/router do you have?

Default Qualifying the Maxium downloads from a particular user

I found the place in tools options uploads ( I had to click here more than once to get the right options to come up) slots.

Slots
o Uploads Per Person, limits the number of files a single host can download from your computer.
o Max Upload Slots, limits the maximum number of simultaneous uploads that are allowed. The default number is set to 5. Set this number to zero to
stop uploads.

Now that I'v found the place I have some ?? I'm afraid to put the "default " setting s to find out this answer.. but I believe it was set to 3..

My ?? is.. why would the programers limit me to 3 songs. photos.. etc.. from any one person who is sharing files.

Why?? should there be a limit to how many files some one could up load from me?

maybe you can direct me to better post this ??

It seems that those of us who like the Less popular type of music.. are being restricted .. by this setting ..
I like blue grass.. acoustic .. fingerstyle guitar.. and there are lots fewer users that like that. .and I just tried to download a 4 star.. with over 15 sources.. and it put it into the awaiting sources.. Is that because I've used up my 3 downloads from those that are on line?

dont know if you have any input on this but it would be appriciated.. and .. maybe a better p.lace to pose the ??

Why did you set your uploads to zero? You want to take but not give I guess. So I suppose if everyone had that attitude, there'd be nothing for anyone to downld. Good luck in your endeavors if that's what you'd prefer. But there's plenty of documentation around the forum that explains how sharing increases your chances of better downlds & search results for common or rare files. Me too, Only A Hobo .. break time for some hrs until the keyboard hits me in the face to wake up for a few more mins. That's fine so long as the mouse doesn't bite me!

Default to configure the firewall

to Lord of the rings,

my modem is a cox cable modem Terayon Tj 715X
my Router is - Dlink Di 624

1) while following the instructions for configuring the firewall i ran into a snag.. I could only add 1 of the items

I did get the one using the TCP ratio's to go thru.. but when the same instructions using the udp were followed it said there was already one using those peramiters.. and denied my request.

2) I dont think I have set the Dlink UPnP and the directions looks pretty good for the linksys - so do you have some for the Dlink.. I doubt I'm able to get there on my own..
-- however it is set in LW for the UPnP

thanks
