I want to download a song but it doesn't give me any place to enter it!

You are one of the lucky few who don't get a search window. (Yes, I am being sarcastic) As of right now, there is no solution available. Try uninstalling and then reinstalling LimeWire. If this doesn't work, older versions of LW may perform differently, so you might try 1.4.
