Default sharing bandwith?

ok, i know i am not the only one fighting this, but this is a flaw that needs to be fixed.... it may be something i have inadvertently done by my config but i can not figure it out.... when i am downloading a movie i have found that others start sharing MY bandwith to get their movies, thereby slowing me down or stopping my download altogether.... example... was downloading steven segal-submerged and found that 4 other peoples were downloading from me at the same time. however, they were downloading from a point past what i was downloading to my hard drive.... the screen showsme a 60 % but they were in the 80's and 90's... when i turned them off (killed upload) my download increased by at least 10kbps as they came back onme it slowed down again... i dont want to be a freeloader but this has to end... any ideas??? can any body find me some bandwith to love??

When I'm downloading large files (such as movies) where an extra 5-20 kb/s would mean a ton of less downloading time, I usually go in my options and set my upload slots for 0. I find uploading really screws around with my bandwidth....then, after I've downloaded whatever it is, I'll switch my uploads back up and just leave my computer on for a while to share it around. I find that works best to keep my downlaods fast and my share ratio up (which I still can't find out how to check >.>)

I'm guessing you use DSL as compared to ADSL service then? adsl usually has totally separate download bandwidth compared to uploads so they shouldn't affect each other. Unless your ISP is playing a part there.

Indeed, DSL

And ya...it's reeeally annoying if I forget..I can have a good download and then suddenly everything just messes around when someone connects to me.

only a hobo knows..... issue resolved...... that was getting kinda annoying..... adjusted and changed just about everything trying to stop that.... well one good thing is i have fine tuned myself i think for the better now

and i did check and have 1.5 download speed and 256k upload.... called bellsouth to upgrade to 3 or 6 download but they say the lines here havent been upgraded in my part of the woods yet... thats kinda funny considering i live right on the mainline 8 blocks (baltimore city measure, i'm in alabama) from the main fibre optic lines for the state..... one day when i grow up it might work... lol

thanks for the memories....

ahab
