Question IPOD probs started with a CHKDSK

Before I gop away on holidays this saturday, i need help with my mini ipod to have it ready....For one reaseon or another i am havng much difficulty transferring my songs from my itunes library onto my IPod.....this has never happened before....

However It probably all stemmed from when i had to run the chkdsk....most likely due to a corrupted file. now i believe i have run this sucessefully, but no longer will any songs transfer from my IPod which has been restored to factory settings.....at the same time i realised i had to update the ipod with the november updater....all these commands and tasks....which i undertook in a day...have me all confused as to what the problem is....i just hope i havent confused you the reader as I would love advice on how to sort it out.......

Are you using Mac or Windows? That part confused me!

How do you normally add your songs to iTunes?

I am using windows xp.... i have an old version of limewire.....so i download my songs...they go into my library....i click explore....i the send them into a music folder on my desktop....then with i tunes open i highlight them all and then ....drag the songs into my itunes library....Often an exclamation mark appears when the new song is added to my library....so as far as i know this just means that itunes hasnt located the file in my foder...and so i locate it....

after all files are located io believe my library is in order....
how wrong am i??

The better way is to drag & drop them onto the Library icon in iTunes. The exclamation mark means iTunes can't find them. See How to transfer music to my iPod (& iTunes) about this & alternative methods. The songs that are already in iTunes, can iTunes play them ok? If not, you may need to double-check the iTunes music library location. Go to iTunes menu bar, Edit>Advanced. Sorry the location of this setting depends on which version of iTunes you have.

Ok will do what you have said from now on to make it easier....but itunes has no problem playing any of the songs in my library all is fine there.....
But transferring them back onto my newly restored IPOD isnt happening....it starts fine....you see them transferring from my itunes....but you dont see them landing onto my Ipod.....it seems slower than normal eventhough i have the latest version of itunes.
The amount is large ie 450 odd songs wud this matter?

Thanks for the replies, lotr.

nice one

I would highly recommend manually adding the songs to your iPod. Yes, perhaps it might be better adding them in smaller groups rather than all at once. I've noticed the more you add, the slower the copy process becomes. But there still sounds like a problem. Are you sure you have the latest updates for your particular iPods? There's updaters for specific type ipods.

HOw do you manually add songs to IPod?

I will check the lates updater for my IPOd....but it seems to be one from mid november last....however....im just remembering that when it comes to updating my ipod....it offers the user two options....update and restore (to factory settings).....it only allows me to restore to factory and will not let me update....

I'm sure you know what restore does. It resets to factory settings & erases all songs on the pod.

For manual updating, see the iPod tutorial. http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/tutorial/index.html (If you have QT Pro you can downld the video file to your HDD.) This link is in the previous link I left. I think I left further reference to it & a sample image at bottom of 1st page of that link above (sample image is on page 2.)
