Default Uploading Fast, Downloads slow - not fair!

On a home network with one comp running LW, and bandwidth set to 100%, download from me at nice speeds and I get 1k maybe 4k - and if it hits 10k tops - I get really excited.

I'm a nice person and share everything I have downloaded. Right now I'm downloading 2 at 6K and UPloading 19 at 78K!!!. One movie that is 39% complete will take 18 days, 9 hours, 32 minutes!!!!! And this is the third complete day! It's not just that sender/host. They are all like that - music included.

Cable modem BTW

I'm tempted to shut down UPloads to one at a time and limit that.

Trouble is, I tried different settings and still - I'm giving out more Bwidth than I can afford. I have 4.9.23 Pro. I upgraded to get inproved dloads and am thinking about uNloading this and going back to the beta - it downloaded faster! What can I do to get some bandwidth back and soem semblance of a download or two happening?

I saw some posts about going to Options Uploads basic and changing things, but this version doesn't have many of the of the "Options" refered to here.

Have you looked at this sticky - configuring LW for optimal performance??:

There's also a sticky (in red) in this section about maximising download/ upload success

Read through every last word including off topic replies. None addressed accessing the screen (LW) behind the myriad number of popups.

Perhaps I missed it, but somewhere in those thousands of words should I have seen a mention of this problem?

My fix has been

Sit in front of comp with mouse armed and on the ready and as they appear, click them OK or the [X] as quickly as they appear until they stop. Wait for the next batch of error popups. This can be between 3 to over 100 of them, one after the other or
Let them pile up and when the system starts to get too slow, (CPU not LW) turn comp off, wait about 30 secs, then on again and reload LW hoping to reconnect in a reasonable amount of time. Doing this, I have ended up in a Que but that gives me a few minutes to go get a coffee
I need to get rid of the constant popping up of the error windows before I can reach behind them to deal with download setup.

Your uploads shouldn't have bad effects on your downlding unless you're using a DSL type of service where upload & downld bandwith is the same entity. If that's the case, then reduce upload bandwidth to about 80% to see if that makes any difference. If it does, then you may want to reduce it a little further.

If that's not the case, then try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 in Fixes for Limewire (sample at bottom of page.)

Not sure what you mean by error messages. What type of error messages? Are they firewall warnings or java errors or ... ?

These are popups that pile one on top of another very quickly at first. Some times just 3 or 4 - other times 30 even over 100 of them. My post about that can be seen @ click here

I think the two, my speeds (or lack of it) and the constant popup errors are related. But, to make changes in LW, I need to get beyond the popups as while they are there, there is no accessing the LW controls - a Catch-22

With the popups there, file transfers continue anyway. Closing the popups and trying to be fast enough so I can access LW controls is like an old Atari game - except I'm frustated now because since there are no scores - I don't know who is winning - the popups or me BTW - errors usually start after about 5 minutes of LW being open.

I assume you assume I have an old version. Maybe I'll uninstall Pro and install an Lite or Beta version - slower but I didn't have the problems I bought into with the reg version/s.

Thanks any way.
