I just looked up the modem it should not have anything to do with your problem. What is the make and model of your router.

The router is a Linksys BEFW11S4 hardwired. And it has UPnP. We have been using it for a couple of years now with no problems. Our internet connection is good, (5737 kbps DL, which is pretty fast).

I use a Linksys and I use to have the same modem as you myself when I run in port forward mode I would sometimes have problems with it when using LimeWire. Fore some reason LW will apparently overload the router in Port Forward and my DL speed would drop drastically I would then Have to reset the router to default by pressing and holding down the reset button for 10 sec. You might want to try doing this after you do this set your router to use UPnP if that is not what you are currently using. I do not have this problem when running in UPnP mode.

I hope it helps I do not know of any other fixes.

Thanks for the info, but I tried what you suggested to no avail. Still getting a poor connection, I'll play around with it a little and see if I can sort it out.

For some reason Im getting normal download speeds (up to 170kbs) again, not sure what the problem was, maybe there was an issue with the server, nothing I did helped any.

Strange, but good (this time).

I've been asking around trying to find out if there might be a bug, and a few people have noticed unusual download speeds. Anyway, nothing obvious has been discovered yet, so please keep watching for factors.

cheers
