Default 100+ZIP folders/programs with song download ??????

Hello All: new to LM, like it a lot. Just seems like today I keep getting 100's of zipped folders in the programs tab after downloading a small vid clip or 2-3 songs ???

And I have not even been looking for programs.

How can I block this large lot of unwanted junk ?
such as CNET, wallpapers, etc., etc.....

thanks for your time.

Default 100+ zip

Thanks for the info, I run Norton, and the zipped files that come with ??? (I have no idea with what), are all the exact same size .

I'm a clean freak and run norton full scan often and have never opened any of these zipped files.

be nice to have the IP's of these pesky little virus spreaders and block them.

Deleted those files earlier, ran norton found nothing serious.
shut down limewire. restarted limewire a few hrs later, check programs file and have 161 zipped files all at 197.7KB. and didn't download a thing during that time.

Hi just because, it sounds like you've picked up something, maybe Norton hasn't detected it, I noticed you said that you never opened the zipped files...Im curious to know the size of the file that has caused this to happen...

Run this AV scan http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

This thread has information about the same problem and offers advice on fixing it...

Let me know how you go with this....

Thanks for the info. Updated Norton had no effect. Deleted everything to do with limewire, deleted the now growing total of over 6500, ZIP files all the same size ( noticed different users of my pc had the same zip files but 1KB larger).

files size for me was 196KB, second user on my pc file sizes were 197KB, third users file sizes were 198KB.

Very interesting.

deleted all downloaded music in all programs and files.

Opened all hidden files and deleted anything even remotely related to limewire and the above files. Cleared all cookies and all TEMP files.

These files are autoldownloading or piggy back onto ???

Did not try restore because I don't beleive it will have any effect.

will try this for a while, if system comes up clean I'll try reloading Limewire and watch files.

only thing left would be to NUKE the HD, and I'd rather not.

Thanks for the info and your time.

Sounds good, I'm far from an expert myself. I used to build pc's long before they were popular and DOS was the only OS available, and the internet was a just a dream back then.

Back then 1Meg of RAM had to be built by soldering ram chips on top of each other.

Crap, I'm getting old.

thanks for your time.

Well unfortunately I'm not an expert. lol But you're just the candidate I've been looking for. Norbie is the person who can fix your problems. See NorbiesWorld (click on link) The reason I said candidate is because Norbie mentioned to me about unknown downlds & to find someone who has had this issue. I suspect your case is such an example. Follow Norbies's directions as prescribed to do the report & he "will" find a way to repair it for you. He is very good!!!

BTW does this thread have similarities: unwanted downloads

There's also other examples listed here WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of! (click on link)
