Default Audio/ Video plays out of sync...

So I download a xvid video and download the proper codec player (two of them actually) and now when I play the video, it plays out of sync. It is not just that video, because I downloaded another one too. I tried both videos on two different codec players and getting the same result.

Please, someone tell me what I'm doing wrong!?!?

BTW, both have tags that say HDTV.XVID.XOV on them, and are avi files. I have other videos in mpeg and windows file formats that play just fine in Windows Media Player.

Thank in advance for your help.

By those similar file names it sounds like they might be from the same source, and that source is not encoding them properly.

If they are from HDTV transmissions, if they are not properly processed, it is quite easy for there to be sound sync issues.

You can muck about trying to fix it if you want, but it is really painfull, particulary if the timing of the offset changes throughout.

I've been fighting this same problem for quite a while, and all the solutions I've seen center around stripping the audio from video and converting to .wav file using VirtualDub product, then re-interleaving the wave file with the video. I could never get these solutions to work.

Since I only cared about watching the video without the audio getting out of sync the farther it got into the show (and the more commercials which were cut out), I took a different approach and started looking for a movie viewer which would allow me to adjust the audio to match the video. I finally found the Zoom player at www.inmatrix.com which does exactly that.

Unfortunately the feature isn't on the standard control panel, so you have to learn how to add it or, like me, just use the keyboard shortcut by holding down the shift key and pressing the + or - keys on the numerical pad.

Hope this helps! G.
