disk problem

i recently downloaded limewire software and i am unable to download songs, videos or anything. i immediately receive the message 'disk problem' under status after beginning a download. nothing will download and i have plenty of available disk space. i've tried everything. any suggestions?

Your user account probably doesn't have write access to the downloads temporary folder.
Create a new one and configure LimeWire to use it.
Any folder you create under your own account should work.

cool. disk problem solved, thanks! now limewire downloads songs and saves them in the file i created but they will not copy to my itunes appliation. after download is complete, a window pops up saying "attempting to copy to the disk 'brindleboy' failed. the disk could not be read from or written to." i'm using mac osx 10.4.5 and the latest itunes version.

You should have mentioned which operating system you were using in your 1st post as the forum rules stipulate. I would suggest "if" you are the admin of your computer, select the folder you chose to downld to & check the permissions & ownership of that folder. Then go to the iTunes music library folder, check the ownership of that folder. Make the iTunes ownership the same as the folder you created to downld to. ie: select the folder, - i & click the arrow next to the Details & check ownership AND check whether you can read & write or only read. Make sure it's BOTH read & write!!! Oh & if it's locked, you'll need to click the lock & enter your password to make changes. And apply if necessary to enclosed items.

this is the tread I was looking for!

Please explain I am new at the forum but a 2.5 year LIM Wire user.

I tried to understand your instructions but I am IGNORAMUS. I do not know where to access these write access folders???Temporary folders???

Even with your image it says nothing to me.

I just posted a a new thread before in this matter. I am not posting all over the place. This is a response to my similar situation. Incase I will explain:

I have DISK PROBLEM after trying to download mostly video files
I have sufficient HD space
Windows Millennium Operating system(yes the dino)
DSL High Speed
Most recent LW release basic

I just deleted ALL my temporary incomplete files and the downloads seem to be working compared to before: I would immediately get DISK ERROR 100% when in fact they never downloaded 100%. I noticed them in my incomplete folder multiple times and taking up huge amounts of space! So I decided to delete everything in the incomplete folder and miraculously as we speak, it seems to be downloading with no errors...I do not want to jinx myself! BUT...I feel this might be a temporary solution. I really want to understand your suggestions and solutions!

:D

My instructions were for folder permissions within Mac OSX, but Aaron's advice was for windows. That's why you didn't understand my instructions. Which version of LW are you using?

You say you have lots of space, but do you mean on the partition you're saving your downlds to or your computer overall. For windows, it's very important to defragment frequently when you're constantly saving & resaving files to your hard disk drive. Also delete your Preview files from your incomplete folder (ie: everytime you preview a video or audio file, it leaves a preview file in the incomplete folder called PREVIEW-filename. For video files, this can take up considerable space.)

For windows issues I'm not the best one to ask.

Thanks LOTR...

HI,

Ms ignoramus here again! LOL! I am on Windows, and I will try defraging my disk where LW doanloads all. I noticed so many incomplete files that never get lost...taking up space as well. Could this be contributing to the DISK PROBLEM?
I really want to resolve this asap. It has been dragging for months now.
Whoever has the suggestions... describe as simply as you can.
I am no wiz, I do what I can and get by all on my own... but somethings like fixing programming arrrghh...not for me!

Waiting for response!:p

I too am having this problem. My save folder has always been on my 750 GB external hard drive with over 600 gig free. I started getting the Disk Problem message this morning so I moved everything to my 500 GB external drive that has been freshly formatted and empty prior to the move. I get the same error message. I have used both drives for saving in the past with no problems. I have not scheduled any downloads in several days so I doubt the queue is a problem. I am the administrator of this computer so THAT is not a problem. My problem is not intermittent. Every download gets stuck and none get through. I am running XP Pro with 2 gig memory.
