Thumbs down downloading videos

limewire used to work a gem. but since updating it... everyithing went crazy..
first off:
it keeps disconnecting. what's with that?
secondly:
i may have 50 hosts available.. it is always qeued. now when it finally starts doing the job... it is always 0 kb/s or 1. and it nevers dls from more than 2 hosts.
thirdly:
the downloading issues all seem to happen when downloading videos, ie. large files.
i have a decent pc, amd 1400+ 256 ram memory, lots of hhd space. 2mb connection, but i am behind a router, although this has been the case for months now..
what could be happenning??
thanks.
ps i have fine tuned my options.. i think.
when dl music, everything is great. almost.

My advice would be to

1. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included.)

2. Try downlding a magnet link from here & tell us what happens: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

3. If your files are constantly queued, it may be due to having too many incomplete files & particularly if you use the Resume/Find Sources function on all of them simultaneously which will queue them for much, much longer. Have you considered this: Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue!. Even if you only apply it to those files that are 0 KB / 0%

Are you aware as to which clients you're downlding these videos from? Some users such as Shareaza (Raza) often have many video files but are very slow to downld from & unreliable to reconnect to due to them frequently using multiple networks at the one time. Thus their bandwidth is sacrificed for using it elsewhere not to mention overhead loss due to this multiconnecting. At least one those networks demands they can only downld as fast as they upload. You can right-click the top of the search results columns or downld window to choose to show client so you know which program it is you're downlding from.

right, with the magnetmix thing..
it was dl at 190 for a point.. then dropped at 0 at around 20%.. stayed there for a minute, lost all the host, started dl again from 1 host.. then 2,3,4, kept dl at 10-15 kb and then shot up at 190 all the way to the end.
any diagnosis?

oh, the amount of files im sharing. its 800 but it is only sharing 250 and it is loadning all the time.. sharing 1 more file every 10 seconds. why is it taking so long to track the files im sharing down? is it because i deleted the .limewire file?

If you're sharing video files, they take much longer to load than say music files. But this generally happens the 1st time you add them, not every time you open LW.

That's an odd response you got. It should have been quite a consistent speed. Some variation in speed can be attributed to partial downlds, so as someone else is downlding it, you're also downlding from their partial shares. This helps speed up downlds. And if they finish downlding a chunk of data then this might affect others. Also if they complete the downld & wait for it to be verified I guess. But I'm not so sure that's the whole reason for your inconsistent speeds.

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.

At the bottom of LW's interface does the icon image of the world have a brick wall in front of it? Another way to find out is to do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False?

The reason I was asking if someone else was using a similar program to LW on your network is the potential bandwidth shift between the 2.
