avi wont play

Ive downloaded something in the form of an avi. when i press play, it says that there is a problem with the file and it cant play on windows media player. the sound works but the video does not.... any suggestions?:confused:

Get a player with in-built codecs & is reliable for playback; VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site)
