My isp is myclearwave.net its through midwest wireless its wireless internet. Im gonna try to change the port that u said then im going to call them and tell them about the magnet site and what it did for that, and im going to reinstall ares and see how that program works. So if im understanding this right they are cutting off my download speed some how? Possible because its an illegal downloading program, because the lady on the phone told me she knew it was an illegal program and she doesnt see that it will be up and running in the future and she said its most likely limewires fault for the bad download speeds. |

Still No Success With Regular Downloading. Quote:
1) Windows XP 2) McAfee firewall (showing Limewire has full access) and Windows XP firewall (turned off). Also did the add port 31823 steps for Windows firewall even though the firewall is turned off. 3) 512 4) 9.24 GB 5) Cable 6) Motorola Surfboard SB5120 cable modem 7) Connected from home 8) LimeWire beta version 4.11.0, Java version 1.5.0_05 9) ISP - Cox Communications 10) Am NOT sharing connection with other computers or other P2P programs. 11) This is my first try at using LimeWire. First of all, didn't submit a "license" number when the box initially came up, but noted in the box to download anyway. I did a test download from a magnet link. Only then, was I successful in down- loading a file, with good speed, 227.2MB within about 15 minutes. Unfortunately, LimeWire still shows the brick wall in front of the blue earth, and I am still unable to download regular files even though my McAfee firewall shows LimeWire having full access, and my Windows firewall turned off. I don't know what the green oval 72 (next to it) is for. The status goes as far as "connecting....," "Waiting for stable connections." I am not connected to a router, but connected directly to the cable modem. I went to one mentioned website, and got, "The test worked," but when I did the report a bug view report, I got a "false" when it came to "Received incoming this session." Cox has been known to shape or block LW in some regions. But if you were able to downld using the magnet link, then that sounds good. I had a look thru the manual of your modem & it doesn't appear to have any internal firewall. Recheck your McAfee settings. You may need to add setting for both port 6346 & the other port which I'm guessing is 31823. Check your settings under (LW's menu bar,) Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls. Is it set to UPnP or manual port forward? You could try swapping these. Press apply & disconnect, reconnect again. Just double-check your settings here License requirement (click on link) BTW the no. you see at the very bottom of LW, to the right of the firewall icon is how many files you're sharing & it also shows overall downld & upload speeds & quantities. Still No Luck.... Quote:
I got the message, "The port number is already used by another entry. Please enter a unique port number." I'm guessing that is because I had been trying out the various types of Gnutella clients for Windows, all probably using the 6346 port number. I gave Bearshare the heave-ho because of the large amount of adware/spyware components included in the program, yet necess- ary for the program to work. I installed Shareaza at one point, and deleted it because of the trojans/worms/etc. In retrospect I should not have blamed Shareaza for that and have subsequently reinstalled it. I don't seem to have any problems with it. But I really did have a leaning towards LimeWire. I seem to remember from other P2P programs, that UPnP was not operational. So, I switched it to manual port forward. I still keep getting that blasted brick wall. .......sigh....... Thanks for trying to assist me. |

network. On the other hand, when it comes to my network connec- tion with Cox, it states LAN or high-speed Internet. ^^^ What do you think? I will keep trying your suggestions. I know just enough about computers to be dangerous. :-) In the town where I live, in the early 90's, I ran the only BBS (a smaller network other than FIDO) before the Internet, along with Windows became so user-friendly. I can still remember Windows 3.1, before Microsoft Windows seemed to take over MS-DOS. I self-taught with MS-DOS 5.0. |

If you're not sharing with other computers at home or no other computers are sharing the connection then it's not a network. Try a port between 49152 - 65535. Either add that port to your firewall or dare i suggest it, temporarily turn the firewall off. You should press apply, go to menu bar, File>Disconnect, wait a minute & then File>Connect. eg: try 64049 & 65530 |

McAfee vs LimeWire Quote:
afternoon. I exited the McAfee Security Center. I even went to the firewall itself and changed the security setting to open, and rebooted. I still get the firewall in front of the blue earth. I also went to the task manager to end any processes McAfee still might have been running. I didn't get very far with that; for five different McAfee processes, access was denied when I wanted to end them. Short of totally uninstalling McAfee, which I ~really~ don't want to have to do, I think we are starting to run out of options. |
