codecs

i know i've asked for alot of help here but i wonder if someone could tell me how to download codecs. i have no idea where to put them if i download them. i was burning movies right along but now none will burn for some reason. it keeps saying it has encountered a problem and must shut down. i am stumped again!!!:rolleyes:
