Talking HELP! i;m a newby!!!!!!!

Sorry to bother you all. Only Bljust got broadband and have been trying to download films. Actually been trying for about 10 days now!!!! I've downloaded '*****' in avi format about 700mb, wouldn't play in realpalyer so dowloaded divx6 player. Tried to burn it but it wouldn't olay on my home dvd player so I have tried to download various converters (possibly trying to convert to dvd format??!! is that right anyone??!!) and not having much success. Can anyone point me in the right and possibly free direction please.

Really would be most grateful as I haven't slept for days because I want to conquer this and don't really understand or know how!! Must be my age!

Any help would be most appreciated.

Many thanks

Default Merge... bloodhounds - Help! I'm a newbie

It might be a problem with the type of disc you're burning to.
I'm no expert
See if this thread helps

Default more info!

thanks for your reply birdy.... however I downloaded divx6 and that decided to play and it burnt on to a cd....but my dvd player can't support avi files so i've been trying to download converters (don't really know what to convert but guessing dvd) however they are for 3o days and print a message straight across the screen.... so:-

question 1: do you know of a free converter or do I have to part with cash?

question 2:- should i look for a different format to download and if so which one? ( think I saw dvd formats but they were about 4 gigs and it seemed to take forever to download this)

question 3:- is th site mainly for downloading to pc and watching from there?

sorry if that sounds a bit up my own a**e but I really don't know how to do this and keep reading threads following info and 10 days later have still got nowhere....promise I won't give up though and when i find out i'll tell the world!

The max file share size is about 2 & a half GB which is smaller than a dvd. So most people reconvert a dvd to svcd or vcd size. See tips here Movie download issues

The newest Nero or Roxio are great at handling these files but if you don't have them then Birdy will have ideas.

Default can't reply to thread but:-

info from a newbie for any other newbie .e although i hate to say it possibly older new time users who don't quite get the lingo... also obviously talk too much so have to post this message in a couple of sessions

thanks for your reply but i honestly had already read that page... however, good news...

1. i've succesfully donwloaded an avi version of the hillls have eyes (don't know what the film is about as it is for other half and looking at it could well be the 1977 version (says it is by Wes Craven)). Had trouble orignially but for anyone in the UK looked up help and support at my isp site and they don't like you doing peer to peer downloads at peak times i.e 6pm to 11pm (i.e download during the night)

2. have new laptop with no particular extra software, real player couldn't find the codecs so downloaded divx6 and this played the film. It also burnt the film onto a cd (file was avi and less than 700mb) but my dvd player (which is not new) did not play it, though i haven't had any problem playing copied dvd's etc.

3. have been looking for converters to convert from avi format in to something which i didn't know what and chose dvd format. chose ALsoft vidieo converter which I left for about 7 hours and it seemed to get nowhere very quickly and then chose cucusoft which converted in less than an hour. It plays on my dvd but becuase I haven't bought it it has a message for cucusoft straight across the screen.

All in all i'm quite hapyy at the moment and may go to sleep, wanted to say that spending the time waiting for replies made me look at the forum and gave me a lot of info for the next film download (if i dare!). seriously take a look at the link here and others it gives lots of info.

However, the question still remains, where can i get a converter without a 30 day free trial and without paying that doesn't print silly things on the screen. If someone can tell me the answer I'll be well away....if I find the answer before anyone else I'll let you know....As a bloodhound I know I'm on the right track.

Default Merge... bloodhounds - can't reply to thread but

There's a big list of converters here, many of them are freeware. You might find something good
http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tools...+or+List+tools

(I'm using DVD Santa but it's a demo & you do get a bit of crap at the top of the screen. You'll have to have a look at some of the other ones, might be a bit of trial & error!)

Bloodhounds, can't be your age, I'm 68, can D/l music like a charm, but want to also download movies, but I'm not sure how. I looked places other than LW that say free, but aren't. I can't fine "******" in LW or any place. Be patient.

Try a little program called "Super". It will convert just about anything.

Google it if you have to.

edit: here's the link
