Also slow download speeds

Hiya

Up until a few days ago, my typical download speed for many months was around 110K/sec. Now Limewire seems to have a max download speed of about 22K/sec! I reset to defaults, no change. My web browser download speed is still ok, above 100K/sec. My ISP is Pipex UK. How can I tell if my ISP is somehow limiting my P2P download speed? Is this possible? Tried changing the listening port, no effect.

Thanks

Give them a call & ask them... you might find they'll give you a straight answer. Have a look at this thread, it's started by someone else who uses Pipex

Try downloading a file from here & see what speeds you get

Thanks

I followed the thread and found a link to a Pipex statement which effectively says that their fair use policy allows them to tinker with what we download (however, at off peak times - midnight to 6am, we are welcome to do what we want). http://www.pipex.net/legal/changes-faq.php

As my web browser downloads still downloads at a fast speed, I wonder how Pipex is able to selectively cap Limewire? Does it affect all gnutella applications? Does it affect other networks?

I'm having exactly the same problem. I've upgraded to the new beta version of Limewire and that's no better. TBH, this happened a while back just as my 6 months of free updates ended (coincidence?). I paid the tenner again and the download speeds immediately shot back up to 234 kb/s.

I've only recently done this so have no clue why it's so slow. It can't be capped by the ISP as I can download at normal speeds using the internet and other download programs.

Anyone got any thoughts?

OK, I'm not a techie so some advice would be helpful here. I've checked the statistics section of limewire and it appears that Limewire is only downloading from http content. I am getting absolutely no activity from the gnutella network. Is that how it is supposed to work? I've never checked before so if someone can check where their activity is it would be most appreciated.

If there is supposed to be activity on the gnutella side of it does anyone have any clue why there wouldn't be? Can i fix it anyhow?

Rang Pipex

Pipex confirmed that they are throttling P2P usage. Despite what is said on http://www.pipex.net/legal/heavy-usage.php, this throttling is in force during off-peak times as well i.e. all the time!

The customer services person I spoke to sounded so pathetic trying to justify th e policy, I had to let him off the hook - poor guy! :D But I don't think I'll stay with Pipex out of pity.
