Sorry but you have been scammed LimeWire basic is free and pro is $18.88 for pro and 6 months of free upgrades. Get your money back and download LimeWire at the official site. The first link is to a thread that is about people that have been scammed. You can get LimeWire at the second link below.

It is possible they can. If it was me I would cancel my subscription and contact my CC company and let them know I had been scammed they will let you know what to do.

well it seems to be doing what it's supposed to now, ie downloading music tracks...will wait and see, have checked banking online and the requisite fee has gone out but nothing else. It would appear that the fee I paid is to cover any issues over licencing laws...
hope it all works out but will see what happens..
cheers

You do not need to pay for basic it is free. And if they say they are going to protect you from prosecution for DL copyrighted material they are just scamming you but it is up to you. Paying them does not make downloading copyrighted material legal.

true, but they never claimed that i had to pay for the basic, that is on their website, in fact it's a link to the limewire site, as free, though you can upgrade if you want for $18.88. i didn't pay for the limewire but i suppose it's a fee so they don't get sued?? not sure, will see how things go!
thanks for the advice though, greatly appreciated
