Tiscali will never openly admit that they are "snapping" P2P uploads and putting all "heavy users" on a far lower bandwidth, they will just call it "capping" which, by all accounts their adverts do not stress!! British Telecom are now jumping on the "Lets snipe P2P users" bandwagon, they do not slow you down they just charge more and more money!

I hope you people had also seen both the Tiscali & UK ISP's listings here ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire. Tiscali's attitude toward p2p is Europe wide. However they do apply different techniques in different countries as to how they block or shape p2p. BTW Tiscali does have subsidaries & joined forces with other isp's both in UK & elsewhere including the USA. They will all have the same issue.

Don't want to shoot you down in flames mickjapa but I had NTL before Tiscali, and my neighbor, who is a good friend, also has it. NTL sent me three emails (through their own Blue Yonder email set-up, the worst there is!!) warning me of heavy usage, now I understood that these "warnings" were supposed to be spaced apart? But no, all three within one week!! Plus the fact that NTL crashes AT LEAST three times a week! Its a very poor service and their technical department have not got a clue on ANY subject you throw at them, I switched from NTL to Tiscali because of this, then obviously Tiscali went bad, my neighbour, who is still with NTL (mainly for the cable t.v.) hardly uses his internet now. Oh and Bulldog!! Please don't get me started!! The only reason that Bulldog has not as yet pulled the plug on P2P is because they have so few customers as it is!! Their so called 8meg speeds were proved to be a scam on watchdog, their average speed within an average exchange distance was Half a Meg!!!

Funnily enough (responding to a private mail on here) the ONLY ISP I can say is not unduly "snapping" P2P connections is good old BT !! But the crafty f**kers just tell you that you should be on a higher tariff for your usage!!

Well Tiscali will only attempt to "Block" you if they sniff out your connection to any P2P (Gnutella especially). As your Limewire is not even connecting you must have another issue, what does the connection bar show (bottom left) when you open Limewire??

AndrewMparmer.
The free update that tiscali offerd mid 2005 was for there benefit,Not users.
People that signed up before That had a differant contract that had real
unlimited, so they had to get rid of those old contracts, Hence new upgrade
(NEW contract) Oh! and sdBot to go with it, OK! so far I have no proof that
this has been given to all tiscali users, mabe just the heavy users.
You can check with SpyBot search n destroy ONLY in SAFE mode, To be sure
it came from them, turn off internet conection Boot into safe mode, sweep with Spybot first, delete whats found. Then uninstall conection drivers &
reinstall them, Now run the scan again in safe mode n see what you find.
Im not a tecki so how they make use of this I dont know. I do know that as
soon as my UPs drop to 1 to 3 kbs, I boot in safe mode, scan, and there it
is sdBot, so I delete and my UPs return, the strange thing to me is that I
rearly download, if I do, I always Scan it, my pasion is sharing, most files I
share were created with my Sound Blaster XFi Fatal from hundreds of LPs
n tapes I gatherd in my hippy days, Lets look at it logicly, P2P is not the real
Problem! the problem is that the ISPs are just to greedy to upGrade there
servers n get properly prepaired for the new software and inventions thats
coming e.g Gaming and such. Lotr has a quote by Bill Gates, 64mb HD should
be more than enough for anyone
Get with the program Tiscali snipping off P2P wont save you, Just STOP Selling Band with you dont have, UPgrade or go join the Dinosurs
Cos You Tiscali Aint not noway ready for whats coming
Peace.

Do you know what mickjapa? I wondered where sdBot came from!! Surely though if it was "installed" with Tiscali then it will return as soon as you boot up into normal mode? This sdBot would, I suppose, be targeting all P2P processes? Or maybe just sniffing out Gnutella? Your right also about the original Tiscali agreement being totally unlimited broadband, obviously when their boffins came up with that advertising campaign they were totally oblivious to how many actual P2P users there were on the planet.
My advice to Tiscali?? If you can't "Hack" it get out of the kitchen.......

Hi John
Im only gessing but if its part of a stelft root kit, the dialer to replace it will
be well hidden. It dose boot or get called,Im not sure whitch but not auto on reboot its not uniform 1hour 5 hours, I have my UPs in view at bottom of page all times, UPs drop ,two min FIX. I will reinstall and format things well before My new ISP connection. N stop pisin on my fire, without hope what would we have, I was allmost tempted to make a snotty BT story as a reply
But there all part of the same problem Good fortune John latter, Im in need
of a fat one.
Peace.
