can limewire DAMAGE HARDRIVE?

this morning i was downloading a video file from limewire, there was 1 user seeding me downloading at the speed of 1k.

while the file is downloading i took a look at the incomplete file folder, and i was shocked:

i noticed there were two copies of the same video i was downloading.

there was only 1 task in the list, however limewire somehow created another copy of the exact same thing.

worst, i soon noticed my pc was lagging really bad, i played a video from youtube.com, it was lagging, my whole system was lagging abit.

when i cancelled the video download the pc stop lagging.

i'm worried that limewire has damage my hardrive by creating 2 copies of the same video, and then writing data to BOTH OF THE FILES as it is downloading.

this will greatly stresses the harddrive as data is being written to 2 files at the same time, i checked the two UNFINISHED video files and both of them are 1.3mb, yes they both have the same size!

which means limewire was writing data to both files as it is downloading, perhaps this is also why my pc is lagging; because my hardrive has already been damage by this software.

imagine downlaoding a file from bittorent, but bittorent creates 2 copies of the file, as the file is downloading, bittorent writes data to both of the files, the hd would spin inconsistantly trying to keep up, resulting in hardware damage.

so can anyone explain to me what happened with limewire?

why were there two copies of the file with the same name adn size, when i only have 1 task running?

and how badly is my hd damage?

I don't know why you had 2 copies of the same file. But your hard drive is not damaged. It is impossible to damage your hard drive by simple writing to it. Your computer is probably lagging when limewire is running due to lack of memory or something like that. Hard Drive are capable of writing memory at literally 1000s of times greater speeds than 1K if yours isn't then you have a bad hard drive and limewire has nothing to do with it. Writing to 2 files at once for most of todays computers is no problem if you have an older weaker machine it could slow your computer down.

That is a characteristic of LW that's been around for quite some time with multiple incompletes of the one file. Sometimes LW will create a 2nd one, from a different source. I have no idea why it does this. But in most cases, this 2nd incomplete will be zero bytes. I've had up to 5 incompletes of the same file. After you finish downlding the file, you can delete the other copies. LW only sometimes does this. These other incompletes will most likely be coloured red, & LW will have forgotten about them. They no longer associate with the reference downld in the downld window.

so you're saying limewire cannot damage my hardrive correct?



if i'm downloading at a very high speed (700k) does limewire have a feature that protects my hd from damage?


there's nothing i should be worrying about, right?



oh and i heard limewire install a few spyware in the system, one of them is called "limeshop", it this true? does that mean limwire is no different than spyware ridden programs like kazaa?

LimeWire or any other program can not damage your hard drive. It is not physically possible to damage your hard drive by righting to it. The only thing that can damage your hard drive physically is things like power surges normal long term wear from running IE spinning. Or failure from some other such occurrence.

LimeWire does not contain spyware limeshop was removed years ago in limewires early years it did have some add ware. But they have been gone for years. Some spyware programs do see LimeWire as spyware but the are false positive results they determine that limewire is spyware because of it's name not because of content.

Hi new member i have been using lime wire for a few months now and had the same problem with my computer it was because i had too many video files [big lost fan downloaded about 15 episodes] best thing to do is:-

1.When you have downloaded the video file either watch it then delete it or burn it to disc i use nero7 which is great then delete the video file and once a week defragment your hard drive it works for me.

2.Stay away from the programmes 90% contain viruses or don't work make sure you scan them before you open them.Make sure you have good anti virus software on at all times i use both Avira and avg 7.1 these catch the trojans normally but it's best to download the free trials and download a registration key or serial number off documents.

It's the best p2p network i have used so far [i have tried them all] and the simplest to use the others are either complicated [morphous] full off spyware and viruses [bearshare] or just too crap [kazza]
